I have a date coming to dinner, and after a week of working like a madwoman, I just realized I am nowhere near ready!
The place isn't filthy or anything, thank goodness, but there is moving-related clutter everywhere, and I have an ambitious dessert I want to try. I have to get the kitchen presentable, at the very least, since the dining room is right next to it.
I also have a gazillion loads of laundry to do. (Okay, two or three, but still!) My washing machine isn't plugged in yet, so that means I have to go upstairs to my old place to do laundry. No big deal, but it's an extra hassle.
Ack! Wish me luck!

Chocolate mousse. It needs to be chilled for at least three hours before I can serve it, which means I need to start it very, very soon!
The kitchen is already looking better, the first load of laundry is rebooted, and the second is in the machine now. I'm feeling considerably more sanguine about this already.

This is a fifth date. We've pretty much begun officially gone the "Okay, you can say I'm your girlfriend" route now. *beam*
The chocolate mousse is in the fridge now, and by God does it taste good! Now it needs to set, and then later tonight I will work on the presentation part.
Off to continue my laundry!

The chocolate mousse won't be set for a while yet. I keep having to resist the urge to open the fridge and poke at it. I have a sinkful of dishes to do, and I'm considering making banana bread: I bought bananas at the market yesterday, but there was an unfortunate accident and they got squooshed. So I have to do something with them quickly before they spoil. In about 15 minutes I'm going to go upstairs to fetch my laundry. Once the kitchen is set and the laundry put away, I think I'll be in business. After that I can do whatever work I can, and when M. gets here (that's my girlfriend), we'll be okay. She knows the place is still all in boxes, and is being very understanding. She's even offered to help me hook up my new washing machine! I'm all giddy. I'm planning to make scallop and mushroom linguini for dinner. I hop it all works out. ~Mouse

Good luck with the date, mouse.
You don't have to redirty the kitchen making banana bread right away. Peel and moosh the bananas, then freeze them in one cup portions, just right for making banana bread later on when you have time.

Messymimi, what a fantastic idea! I totally never thought of that, which is silly because I have a TON of freezer space in my new fridge.
Thank you!

You're welcome!
I also use frozen bananas to make smoothies in the vita-mix blender.

Whew! I didn't get my bookcases set up, which was what I really wanted to do today, but I did get some important stuff done: - The kitchen is clean and sparkly
- The chocolate mousse is set and in the fridge (must not go poke at it!)
- The fridge in my old apartment is empty and unplugged
- I took a bath and am thoroughly clean for my date (although I hope she doesn't mind that I'll be in a t-shirt and jeans )
- I got some important phone calls done
- I put away all the rest of my clothes and tidied the bedroom
- I did two loads of laundry, including the bed linens
- I smooshed up the bananas and put them in the freezer, thanks to Messymimi's suggestion
- I changed the cat litter and put two trash bags outside instead of letting them hang around the place the way they've been doing for the past week
M. is supposed to be here in about half an hour. I'll see if she wants to eat early or just hang out. If it's just hanging out, maybe she won't mind if I try to set up a bookcase while she sits in a chair and sips a drink. ~Mouse

Amen to that! Although dinner doesn't necessarily mean the rest. *sigh* We'll see. The company so far has been great, anyway. Ten minutes before she gets here! Eek! ~Mouse
