This is the forum for questions so I figured I should post this here It's about Listzilla. That's one area from SS that I never really checked into so I'm rather fuzzy on it. I think this is something I need to use to help me get past certain areas but I'm a little confused about what you are supposed to list. Example: You get up in the morning, get dressed, feed any animals, maybe you make the bed every single day. This isn't something you should list right? What I guess I'm trying to say is do you list everything you do even if it's stuff you do every day?? Also there are To-Do's and Ta-Da's but are there Ta-Didn't? Like if you list something but didn't get around to it, or got side tracked by something else.....

Thanks Minnibella I had read the rules but still didn't know the general way things are done. I think it would be best if I just glossed over the normal stuff and headed right to the things I really need to get done. I bet I'll have quite a few Ta-Didn'ts too!

If you want to list it, it's okay to list it. If you feel that it's too mundane to list it, that's also up to you.
Basically, though, if you're having trouble seeing the positive actions you take and only list the failures, it's not going to do you much good unless your goal is self-flagellation. In other words, listing the things you do everyday, no matter what, that gives you positive self-feedback. It shows you that you have some reliable habits upon which you can build. It also gives others the opportunity to cheer you along for those things.
On those days when you're feeling that you haven't made any progress because of all the Ta-Didn'ts, at least the list of the maintenance things will show you that you DO have some positive habits. Sometimes we need to remind ourselvs of that.

No dumb questions! Hey, Heylady. I just want to invite you to join in on the fun in the Working in Threes (WITs) thread, if you haven't already. It is a great way to get started, especially if you are not a listmaker. The directions are in the first post of the thread. We always try to cheer each other on there...it is a very positive. The Accountability thread is another great thread to make your list in. If you haven't already, check it out. The directions are in the first post, too. And, you can always do your own list & start a thread of your own, or piggyback on with someone else. Just jump on in & remember the main thing about listzilla as in Script's post at the very top in this forum is basically...there are no rules!!! Basically, though, I whole-heartedly agree with EAgle's post... focus on what you are doing rather than what you are not doing. That is a very tough concept for myself & many others here, but when we feel better it is easier to get things done. Welcome to listzilla! CD (PS--I remember years ago when I made one of my incredibly long todo lists...LittleNinja tagged it a "listzilla" ...and well, the name kinda stuck...)

Thanks everyone! I hadn't thought about the negative stuff - yeah, I can definitely see myself posting up things to do then not doing them and being all upset/embarrassed/defeated. Instead of Ta-Didn'ts you just leave it on the list to get to when you can. Today has been (so far) just a huge Ta-Didn't so I'm grateful I didn't post anything! !!

I agree with Eagle and CanDo. I am perfectly capable of beating myself up for my failings -- real and imagined. What I need to do is to change my thinking and build self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment.
I am also trying to develop new habits on a daily basis. The current ones are to make my bed and to bring the mail into the study to deal with it, rather than plopping it down randomly about the place. Although these seem like normal, routine things to do, I will post them as TA-DAs from time to time. They are big deals for me. And it's useful to remind myself that even if the rest of the day has not gone well, I am taking care of myself by doing these little self-care steps. If I have a really productive day, I might post other things, but if all I can manage to do is to remember not to scatter the mail around the place, well, then, YEAH! I remembered not to scatter the mail around the place. It goes down as a TA-DA.
Does this make sense?

I think another important concept with the lists is this: writing down the small ToDos makes them manageable, so you end up completing them and then getting to list them as TaDas. So, for example, if I write something too big, such as "Clean my kitchen", it's likely to make me feel overwhelmed, but "Clean the one mug that's sitting in the sink" is easy, and may lead to "Clean the pot in the sink" and even "clean the sink now that you've cleaned all the dishes in it".
Small steps are how we start the longest journeys, as the various names of this group so far reflect!
