I was just wondering, is there anywhere on the homepage that indicates if anyone is in chat? I know that next to the board names a little 1 viewing (or however many) comes up, but I haven't seen a similar thing for chat - though I am quite blind, so if it already exists please let me know, but if it doesn't, I was wondering if a similar 'number in' could appear next to the chat icon up the top or down the bottom where the names of people are. At the moment (and especially being in a very different time zone to most people on here) I find myself popping in and out of the chat room alot to see if anyone is there. As I said, I am quite blind, so if there is already a way to see if anyone is in chat from the homepage please let me know.

Okay, MrsMole, I was able to find a code I could modify. I think this will work. You'll find a box with the word "Chatters" next to it directly above the Google search box at the bottom of each page. It will give you the number of people in the chat room at any given time. It won't refresh automatically if you stay on any given page for a length of time, but if you refresh your screen just as you check, it should be fairly accurate. Let me know if you spot problems!

Celeste, you are so savvy. I just love your PM link in your message. What a great idea. Regarding the chatters box, I really like this, as well. On my screen the box is shorter than the font for the number, so I only see the top half of the number. Is this specific to my computer, my browser or is it something the code can correct? BTW, I am using IE 6.0.2900...... (so many characters after the 6.2!) on Windows XP.

I'm not sure what I should be seeing. In Firefox 2, I'm seeing an empty text box after the word "Chatters". In IE7, I'm seeing the box and a horizontal scroll bar.
I would think that I should see a number - 0 or 1 or 2 or 27 or whatever the number is. And I'm not seeing anything that looks numberish.
(Of course, my browsers are behaving oddly, so this could just be me.)

Thank you Celeste! I can see it right now. I hope it wasn't difficult to figure out ( I had already accepted that it probably couldn't be done, since the chat room is under a different host). I hope others find this useful too!

Oh That's so cute! I just saw the "sorry. none." in the box. It reminds me of when you're waiting for a bus, and one will go past with "sorry, not in service" on it's sign!

I want to go into chat, but the only way I can get in is to use my user name. my user name is a version of my real name, and I don't want to use that in chat. I want to use mrs. hen - which is the name my posts go by on the boards.
Can someone help me fix this?

In the chat login box where it asks for your username, you CAN put "Mrs. Hen" and it should take it with no problem. Let me know if it doesn't. As for the boards, If you want to create a new account "mrshen" on SOS, you can. At that point you could delete your old account. Let me know if you go that route and I'll adjust the number of posts in your new account to include old posts (18, at the moment). Hope that helps! Ask, if not.
