Ever use the "I am getting ready to paint" trick? I toss sheets over the messes so I don't get distracted/overwhelmed and just pick a spot or thing to work on. I also have 23 cats...3 inside...the rest outside. I live in the country and they just appear on my doorstep. I have managed to get many of them adopted but it is a hard job trying to take good care of them all. The sad thing is....23 is my low number. sigh

Hello Congratulations on the box out the door You are going the right direction. Just keep it up I too have a problem with getting started but I just do small things and feel so much better when I accomplish something. And some day I will be able to do bigger things I also have a lot of pets but I love them and if they make a mess it is usually because I have failed to take care of them. Good luck and keep plugging away Saveit

Thank you everyone. Today was trash day and I had 3 black garbage bags and a big cardboard box out to the curb - not a ton of stuff, but significant I think. I've been trying to throw away 1 or 2 things every time I go in the laundry room/garage, and I am seeing a difference. I think I'm going to try to work some more out there this weekend. I'd really like to get it and my carport cleaned up and looking better. The carport isn't bad actually, just a lot of leaves that need to be cleaned up and a few odds and ends.

I forgot to mention, I have several repairs that need to be done in my house. My sink has a broken pipe and while it still works, I have to let it drain into a bucket and dump the bucket in the tub. My toilet needs the guts replaced and the seat replace (I really don't know how to do either - can probably figure out the seat but the guts no way. You may benefit from the info in this recent discussion: Replacing The Toilet Seat. Break it down into small steps: - Read the thread.
- Determine the shape of seat needed. Take photo if necessary.
- Buy a seat.
- Ask salesperson for tips/hints.
- Study the drawing and info on website given in post.
- Replace the seat.
- Pat self on the back.
Once you have gained an enormous amount of self-confidence from accomplishing that task, Google other bathroom repair tasks. In the meantime, congratulations for surviving with some semblance of sanity since your DH's death last year. I know people who would still be curled up in the fetal position. Sad, but true! If I were in your position, the first thing I would do is make life more comfortable for your cats. Dump the contents of the litter box. Scrub it out well and start from scratch - no pun intended! !!! With four cats, I would have 2 litter boxes. Try to build the habit of scooping every night and every morning. I did this by making it part of my Morning Routine and Bedtime Routine. While coffee is brewing in the morning, scoop, wash hands, and coffee is ready. Nighttime: lock doors, scoop, wash hands, then to the bathroom for bedtime personal hygiene. Your babies will love you for it. Plus, it will cut down on the smellies. Warm hugs to you.
