Hello to the high-tech people (and thank God for you)! I was wondering if it is possible to change my email account without changing my name here? My account happens to be tied to my main email, which uses my real name. I recall from before that if you changed email account you had to change your account name here too....is that still the case? I might still consider doing it, but people have known me as Hurricane here for many years. Thanks for any help/advice in advance.

My account happens to be tied to my main email, which uses my real name. I recall from before that if you changed email account you had to change your account name here too....is that still the case? I might still consider doing it, but people have known me as Hurricane here for many years. Just pondering this as I have started a blog and am worried someone from my family could find it. I'm not exactly sure HOW they'd find it, but I think they could, right? I'm just not tech-savvy enough to know all the implications. Thanks for any help/advice in advance. No, you won't need to change your user name.
What you will need to do is create a new global account at ProBoards. THEN you will have to unlink your current SOS account (Hurricane) from your old global account BEFORE you can link it to your new global account.
ProBoards global accounts are based on email accounts and one email account can only be linked to one global account, but you cannot link one Forum account to multiple global accounts.
Once you create the new global account, you can make those changes at this link: www.proboards.com/account/settings
Edited to give easier instructions:
HOW TO CHANGE your email in your ProBoards global account:
While logged into SOS, click the Account Setting gear in the lower right corner of your screen. Fourth item down on the Account Settings tab you'll find 'Email'. Click 'Edit'. Enter your new email address twice, along with your current global password. Click 'Save changes'
This will change the email address for your current global account. You'll still need to go into your profile on SOS to change your email address here.

OK, so I got all that done (unlinked global account and changed email), but I am not re-linked to the NEW global account. How do I do that, and is it even necessary? It seems I can log into SOS fine and everything seems ok....

It seems I can log into SOS fine and everything seems ok.... Well that's very interesting. I don't think ProBoards meant for anyone to be able to log into any of the ProBoards forums without a global account. Are you sure you're not linked to at least one of those global accounts?
BTW, the instructions I gave you were more difficult than they needed to be. You can actually CHANGE your email address for the global account right there at that link I gave you and wouldn't even need to create a new global account at all. I'm sorry to have giving you those complicated instructions. I had thought it could be done, but for some reason last night I wasn't able to find that information when I was looking on the ProBoards Support Forums, but this morning I found the answer in my inbox from Celeste!
So if you choose you can delete one of those global accounts you have after making sure the SOS account is truly linked to the one you are going to keep.
To be on the safe side, in case this is some glitch that ProBoards will later fix, YES you do need to have your SOS account linked to a global account.

P.S. Hurricane, You will still need to go into your SOS account profile and change your email address here, since that was the whole point of this, right?

Thanks eagle. Things are a little confusing and different on the board today, and no doubt that has something to do with un-linking my global account. I DID manage to get linked up again.....there was an option to do it this morning (last night the option didn't show up). So I'm linked to here for sure.
As to the email issue: when I go to my profile here the email still says my real name....then next to it there is an "edit" button. When you click on that it takes me to the main proboards page, where it shows my new, anonymous email. So my real name is still listed here and there appears no way to change that....I don't know if that matters, since proboards is sending mail to my new email address. But it would be nice to have that cleared off the page. If YOU guys needed to email me, I have no idea which account it would go to.
Hope this makes sense!

Try retyping the new email address on the ProBoards Account Settings page and resubmitting it, @hurricanej. I have no idea if it will let you, but it is worth a try. If it doesn't work, I have another idea. Let me know how it turns out.
When we were first trying out v5 in Beta, creating a new account was the only way to change the email address. Unfortunately, once the ProBoards team made an update to the system to allow for changes, Eagle didn't hear about it, so she gave you the old method.
I apologize to both of you. I'll add the updated instructions to our Tech board later.

I tried to re-enter my email but it didn't work...it said "this email account is already in use."
It's ok if you weren't quite sure of the most current instructions....$hit happens in the tech world.
Do you think it's possible I have two global accounts now? How would I check?

I suspect you are right and you now have two active global accounts. We can take care of that for you. (Try not to feel intimidated, @hurricanej!) Leave this screen open in a tab and open a new tab, also logged into SOS. Do the following in the new tab so you can refer to the instructions in the old tab. Log out of your current global account by going to 'Switch Account' in the lower right corner of SOS In the upper right corner of that screen, it should give you the option to 'Logout'. Do so. It will take you back to SOS's home screen as a guest. Click 'Login' Type your OLD global email and password If your old global account is active, it should log you into a forum accounts page If it has no forum accounts except 'Guest', you've successfully moved your SOS account to the other global account In the address bar of your browser, paste www.proboards.com/account/settings and hit enter This should take you to the Account Setting screen for your old global account (confirm by looking at the email address) Click 'Delete on the bottom line which says 'Delete Global Account' Confirm any warnings and delete it Come back to the SOS homepage and login in the new global account. Your SOS Profile should then allow you to make changes to your email address now that the old global account is gone. (If it doesn't, I have another trick up my sleeve.)

I did everything you said Celeste, but it still won't let me change the email on the SOOS page. Poop. I'm not totally sure what is going on...the second account was deleted, it seems, but then they said I had to create a new password for "other accounts" before they deleted that one. I used the same username, email, and password as my new anonymous account and it didn't stop me, so maybe it's one account, or I created two of the same account. I'm sure that's as clear as mud!

Try changing the global account back to your email account with your name. Once you've confirmed that and you can get in and out with it, switch it to the new email address.

OK, I switched my email back to the one with my real name....I can log-in and log-out with no problem. Unfortunately when you try to "edit" your email at SOOS, it still takes me right to the global account page.....there seems to be no way to edit the email at SOOS! Celeste, let's make sure I'm on the right page to edit the email though....here's how I got to it: Go into "profile" tab, hit the "edit profile" button, then go into the "personal" tab, and then there's an option to "edit your email. Is there perhaps another place to edit your email that maybe I'm missing? The way this is set up, I don't think anyone can change their email at SOOS, which was sort of the way it was set up before we went to proboards. Can you change your email here? By the way thanks for all your help on this....I'm sure it's been a mess for you to figure out all the different ways to tackle this problem. Cheers to you!

@hurricanej i think that all you need to do is ... NOW ... while logged into SOS, go the the very bottom right corner of your screen, click on the gear icon, which puts you into GLOBAL, and edit your email INSIDE GLOBAL. That will automatically update your email within SOS. But DON'T do that until Celeste confirms i'm correct *I'm just going with what she says here takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/thread/23142/

Okay, now that you have BOTH the global account and the forum account saying the same thing, go back into the global account and change it and both should change. Use the directions given in takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/thread/23142/ as recommended by Lion. If that doesn't work, this old pony is out of tricks and I'll have to check with ProBoards Support.
