I can hardly write this here. Or anywhere. My dog - my beautiful, sweet, precious girl - is sick. And it's all my fault. She hasn't been feeling well for a few days, at least. She's been having diarrhea all over the house, and not sleeping well and is now refusing to eat - except for grass. And I just noticed why - her bowl, which she pushes all around the floor despite the no-skid bottom, was right in the boric acid I put down because of our pest problem! It was all over the bowl! DH wouldn't have noticed, because he doesn't notice things that don't directly affect him. And now she's sick...and we can't afford a vet visit. My beautiful baby might DIE because of my disgusting house. It's not FAIR - she shouldn't have to suffer because I can't handle my life. I don't know what to do. She is the kindest, gentlest girl in the world, and many times she is the only reason I am able to get up in the morning. I don't know how I'll be able to forgive myself if she doesn't get better.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. I'm faced with the upcoming death of a pet too, and it's just shattering me. Hug her and love her, and I'll pray that she improves.

I called my brother's vet for advice on your behalf, and all the receptionist could say was, "Dog should see a vet". If that is impossible, may I make a suggestion? You don't mention how BIG your dog is. But if you put down poison for rats or mice or roaches or ants.....well, probably your dog is BIGGER than these animals, and may be sick, but not fatally so. If this were me, I would keep the dog warm, stay close by, clean up the messes as best you can, and hope and pray that Nature is on your side. I am also a great believer in warm milk.... hugs and prayers to you both

I am so sorry for your sweet baby's suffering. All the info I can find says seek treatment. Is there any vet who will work with you on $$? Do you have a SPCA hospital. Sometimes they will work with you for the sake of the animal.
My prayers are with you and your baby.

i'm with script on warm and close by and liquids.. though i might suggest trying to get some pedialyte into her... i'm so sorry you can't get her into the vet... but without a vet the best thing really is probably at home supportive care.. keep her loved, warm, and hydrated which might be an issue with the loose stool.. i am so sorry. i know we end up suffering as our pets suffer.. thoughts are with your sweetgirl.

Oh no! I'm so sorry about your doggie. I second the notion of the SPCA vet: maybe they can help without charging you too much, or set up a payment plan? Poisoning is pretty serious for an animal. ~Mouse

someday-You are not evil. You didn't plan for this to happen. Maybe if you call the vet, explain to them that it is an emergency, maybe they will assist you. I'm so sorry this happened.

Thank you for all your prayers. I am at work, but DH is with her now. I was with her all morning. She is a 50+ lb. American Staffordshire Terrier mix, but the problem is that I don't know how MUCH she's eaten. I put down CUPS of the stuff in places where I didn't think she'd get to it. It's killing me to not be with her right now. We will keep her warm, and hopefully hydrate her, and DH is looking into some vets that might take her case on a payment plan.
Animals amaze me. She was badly abused and abandoned before turning up at the SPCA, and even then she was adopted out and returned before we got her - And still, she loves unconditionally. She doesn't care if the house is messy (although she prefers it clean - more room to play!) she just wants to be loved and petted. She is SUCH a good dog. I am going to do anything in my power to make her well again.

I called poison control and they said to take her to the Vet - and the ASPCA Poison Control costs $50 a pop - I won't have that in my account until Friday.

I looked online. The only I could find for home remedies was pedialyte and activated charcoal. It said in a pinch you could burn toAST COMPLETELY TO MAKE CHARCOAL. i KNOW YOU CAN BUY ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FOR about 6 bucks at walmart for fish tanks. I would also consider calling every vet in your area and see if they will give you free care.
