Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I have been around, and boy have I missed you!
My house normally stays at a level one now, but is starting to slip back a bit. I thought I would work on ONE thing for a week, then the next week add a new habit I want to accomplish, etc. I am not explaining it very well... for example, if one wanted to focus on the kitchen, they could commit to wiping off the stove every evening for 7 days. Then next week, they commit to wiping off the stove every evening, and wiping off the counter next to the stove. Where you continue the chores each week, but add to them.
For my first good habit, I am going to strive to go to bed by midnight every night & not take my sleep meds until I am ready to go to bed. At first glance, it does not appear to be squalor related, but it is. I am not sleeping well, and often fall asleep in my recliner in the living room. Then I wake up 100 times thinking I need to go to bed, but I don't. The lack of quality of sleep is affecting every aspect of my life. I barely get the necessities done, and house things are starting to pile up. I would get more done if I felt better.
Week 1: Go to bed by midnight & don't take sleep meds until I am on my way to bed.
I would love to have people join me!

Hi skatters nice to "meet" you and a great idea for a thread! I'd like to join you in this - I'm getting close to surface maintenance in most of my house - by which I mean the obvious public areas aren't too bad, but the cupboards, attic etc are dreadful. I know that I'm really bad at maintaining, if it doesn't look bad I don't notice it, and by the time it looks bad it's really bad! So, this week I'm going to commit to sweeping my kitchen floor every night

Hi skatters. I'd like to join too, and I'll choose a good-health habit like you did.
For months I've been neglecting to eat lunch and take my diabetes meds with that meal. So I've only been eating two meals a day with meds, but snacking a lot. I know this is so stupid. My energy and good mood depend upon keeping my blood sugar steady, not the roller-coaster ride of recent months. I always seem to find some excuse, like I was too busy and forgot.
Last week I started making a real effort to remember and plan for lunch and enjoy it! I'm up to 6 days in a row now, with a nice lunch every day. I will try for a full two weeks of lunches before I add another habit. So for now I'm at 6/14.

I have a hard time adding habits that need to be done daily because of my work schedule, but I can add a few.
Worknights, when I have to get up at 5:15 the next morning: In bed by 9:30. This is not normally a problem for me. Other nights: In bed by 10:00. I usually do this anyway, but stayed up later last night, and am dragging today. The second habit I want to add is brushing my teeth twice a day, and flossing once a day. I'm usually pretty good with the brushing, but the flossing? Not so much.

7/14 for eating lunch and taking my meds.
I volunteer for music concerts once or twice a week, and that's when I often end up skipping lunch and meds because I'm in a rush to get there. But by the time I get back home again, I am ravenous and headachy. So this week I tried something new... I packed a little bag of easily grabbable and portable foods: a protein bar, an apple, and a handful of almonds, plus my meds and a bottle of water. And that was perfect! Quick and easy, no muss, no fuss, no hunger pangs, no headache, no whacked-out blood sugar.

Kitchen floor swept - I looked at it, thought it wasn't too bad and I might have left it if I wasn't wanting to post on here. For not bad it's amazing how much gets swept up!

Now I'm up to 10/14 for eating lunch and taking my lunchtime meds. However, today's timing was badly skewed...
Night before last I only got a couple hours of sleep, so today I let myself sleep in without an alarm, until I woke up naturally... at 2:00pm! So I didn't finish breakfast until 4pm, and then ate "lunch" at 8pm. Now I guess it'll be around 11pm for dinner.
See, this has been my problem whenever a crazy sleep schedule throws my meal times out of whack. I end up skipping lunch to try to get back on track. But I don't want to do that anymore. When these 14 days are up, I'll add a new challenge to regulate my sleep better.

12/14 for lunch + meds. Healthy lunches, too! It's been so nice these past 12 days to NOT come charging at my dinner like a starving buffalo. Only 2 more days, and then I really need to do something about my deplorable sleep habits for my next add-a-challenge. How's that going for you guys... skatters, cando, and Ally?

Yay! that's seven floor sweeps done! The kitchen floor has horrible grey vinyl on it which is starting to crack and no matter what I do it still looks minging, but at least we don't crunch anymore. As a bonus the hallway carpet stays cleaner as we're not tracking crud through. So......what to add? I think it will be wiping down the worktops - I'm not bad at doing that, but it's not a regular habit. Makes sense - wipe horizontal surfaces then sweep.
