Well its just a baby step but a step none the less.
I offered and gave away a TRUCK LOAD( it filled the bed of my Ranger) of old computer parts. I had a a gas stove but I do not have gas so I gave that away also. I also has a extra washer that was given to me, It had a spin problem so I gave it away too. I also found part of the floor in my dining room, cleared out a cabinet with a mouse city, and hauled out 4 bags of trash that was mostly bread wrappers and papers. My dining room looks funny with the clear spot, which hopefully I will enlarge on my next free day. I should be starting with the living room as its the front room, with the front entrance that everyone would use, but I just can't do that yet. Hopefully soon I will get this one done. Bessy

If these are baby steps, I hope I can catch whatever bug caught you!
I don't blame you for starting with the dining area. Nothing warms the heart and encourages us like having a nice place to eat with the family.

I had bought the gas stove because I like cooking with gas better. My house is set up for an electric stove and I do have one, I didn't want anyone to think I gave away my only cook stove. We never got gas(propane) because the price sky rocketed and electric was cheaper to have. The stove has been sitting in the hopefully soon to be finished new kitchen area for almost 4 years with stuff piled on it. It was really time to let it go to someone who could use it. I probably could have sold it but it was just better this way. Its gone and I now have a cleared 4x4 spot and a pathway. This spot will be enlarged later to include the cabinets around it. So that's 2 places I can actually see new floor.
I told my mother I was "spring"cleaning" and needed her unlimited trash pickup since I am only allowed 1 wheeled container supplied by the collection service. She said I could bring any extra bags I have to her house. I can now have trash out of the house on Tuesday and Thursday as hers is picked up on Friday. This will be a tremendous help and the bags will not sit around for very long each week. I will throw any extra from Tuesday into the truck on Wednesday night and take them to her house on Thursday morning for pickup on Friday. There is some old carpet that got wet in the garage. This will go to moms as soon as I can get to it as they will take that and mine won't. She said as long as it wasn't food stuffs that stray dogs would scatter, anything was OK as long as it was bagged up. The carpet will sit on top. That was one of my problems. That 1 container does not hold enough and to have another one delivered is not in the budget.

Excellent! Congratulations! And that's great that you have another means to dispose of trash; that will make a huge difference.
I'm all for starting where you can.
I've decided that, when in doubt, I'll just deal with the first task I see that I know I can actually finish. It doesn't matter where it is, or whether other tasks are a more logical choice to tackle first--if I look at it and say, "I can at least do that!" that's what I do. Which is why I'm excavating and de-funking my kitchen, which is in the back of the house, rather than clearing the publicly-visible junk piles in my front hall and dining room.

What you did was a very big step! Hauling a bunch of stuff is very hard to do, both physically and mentally. You will get to the front area eventually, don't stress out about that. I think you will find desqualoring can get addictive, and soon enough you will WANT to do that area. Your family is now blessed with that clean area in the kitchen, and there is more to come in the near future! Awesome work!

What kind of baby? Baby elephant? That's a fantastic start! Keep looking at that spot for inspiration.

Yeah, I agree--that was no baby step! Great first jump, with both feet!
And, No More Squalor, I agree that we can get bogged down with trying to be logical or do what we think we SHOULD, instead of doing what we CAN. It really does make sense to just START doing what you know you can tackle and finish, and get the momentum going to move onto other jobs.

Good for you!!! Doesn't it feel great to be rid of all of that stuff??? But I do agree, I like cooking with gas better than electric any day.
