christine, i can totally sympathise with you! my mother is wonderful, but she is very high strung and it stresses me out when she comes. I know she only wants to help, but sometimes its like "MA - CHILL!!!! kthx." I've been lucky that neither of them have seen me at my worst squalor point, though my mom knows about it because i;ve told her. I can totally understand! Hugs.

Well done on surviving the visit. I find parental visits better in retrospect than in anticipation. And am somewhat relieved that the rest of the family never visit, as I have the smallest house, so it makes sense to go visit with someone else. And I am trying to get rid of the ingrained idea that I must at all times be hospitable. I can say no, I will say no! And I will get rid of the sofa bed, and then no one can come and stay, unless they like sleeping on the floor.

Fish and houseguests only last 3 days.
The job of a parent is to spend 18 years making you crazy and the rest of your life complaining because you are.
Glad you survived and managed to enjoy them.
