As a dish fanatic, I'm intrigued! Can anyone supply a picture or link to this pattern?

How is the dishwashing going? I was wondering the same thing. How's it going, dayeanu? Are you doing them all as planned?

As a dish fanatic, I'm intrigued! Can anyone supply a picture or link to this pattern? There is a pfaltzgraff Tea Rose pattern. And then there is a Royal Albert Tea Rose bone china from the 1940's, I believe. (I love china!)

I am working toward doing all the dishes, but as I said earlier, "Day 1" may take me several days! I put away and washed a load today. I had to work tonight, and it will probably be late when I finish, so I won't do any more this evening.

Dayeanu, I started the 28 days book 5 days ago and I JUST got done with all my dishes. Like... tonight. First time in a while when all i had to do was wash the Dinner dishes and be done. So her day 1 took me a week. You can do it. I did the dishpan method except my dishpans were 2- 5 gallon buckets in the bathtub. Because my kitchen counters aren't usable at the moment. That's on the list. Nony is amusing and her methods, from what I've skipped ahead to, are just forming habits. Slob vision is freaking real! When i first started listening to her podcasts I was amazed at how similar the mindset was. No I don't think she knows real squalor or hoarding. But her beginning pictures are almost there. She just seems to put the chaos into a lighter subject. So tomorrow I start day 2. I'm still proud over day 1.

thedreadedknock THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!! (Insert a whilw row of dancing elephants and cheerleaders here!) I am in awe and impressed with your fortitude and determination. That is quite an accomplishment! It would be an accomplishment using a dishwasher....... But you did it using buckets in the bathtub!!! You deserve some special kind of award for that! Well, now you have totally motivated me!

WOW!!! That is fantastic. And BTW. My everyday dishes are the Pfaltzgraff Tea Rose pattern. I gave my DD my Lenox Windsong. I still have Pfaltzgraff Snow Village Christmas Dishes and Noritake Denise as my "good" china. I gave DD most of my crystal

Once you get used to having a useable kitchen, you will WANT to get the dishes done. I can no longer function when it's a mess. Yesterday, I dropped by GoodWill they had pieces of my beloved TeaRose dishes. I bought a fluted serving bowl, 4 fluted soup size bowls that I will use for serving and several dessert plates that have the decals. I came home, washed them and put mismatched dishes in a box to discard, swapped out the pretty salad plates for non decorated ones and discarded the plain ones. So I have new items with no clutter impact!!!!!! I don't know, I just can't imagine it. I want them DONE. but I don't want have to do them for them to be done.

Yes, what Di said, "Once you get used to having a useable kitchen, you will WANT to get the dishes done."
It was true for me. For a very long time I had a path from the door to the sink in my kitchen and that was all. Every other surface, floor, counters, everything, was full of stuff. The sink was full and unusable. I couldn't even get to the dirty dishes. It took a long time to get the kitchen cleared, a long time before we could even get to the cupboards. The cupboards were full of other stuff, so I had to clear out the cupboards to have a place to put the clean dishes. I had to give away or throw away a lot of things. We boxed up the dirty dishes and stacked them up, waiting.
And when I did finally get to the point where I COULD wash dishes, it was a delight. Kind of like moving into the First World. Running water!! Hot water, even!! Loads of big fluffy nice smelling suds!! A place to PUT AWAY clean things!!! I washed dishes every day, and every day I reminded myself that it was a special treat to be doing that. It took a long time before all the dishes were finally done and put away. But what a feeling!
I still remind myself that it is a privilege and a joy to be able to do dishes!

Dayeanu I'm so glad you are motivated! Just don't do the dishes to the point where you are exhausted. Then it's very easy to talk yourself into not getting them done. Just a little set amount a day. My motivation was knowing I could stop at any point i wanted to for the day. Back starts hurting? Dishes still in the soapy bucket and rinse bucket? I'll get up and leave them until tomorrow. Because I did 3 buckets worth of washing that day. I know this site has all that same advice sprinkled around it. Just takes doing it to actually believe it.

The regular dishes generally get washed most days. What doesn't get washed are the odds and ends, pots and pans and dishwasher rejects (things the dishwasher didn't clean when it went through). So today I started and washed, 2 medicine cups. the glass lid for the large fry pan, the glass lid for the rice cooker, the rice cooker pan, rinsed a soda can for recycling (on counter for a month), and washed the silverware drainer cup (it gets dusty dirty since it sits out with the drainer).
I'm going to aim for 5 non regular dishes periodically through the day. We shall see how long it takes me to complete day one.
I really like her blog and I think doing her book with the rest of you will be good and motivating. thanks for the link.

Good god you, Di! I love the tea rose pattern. Oops! I have to correct this! I would never use the expression, "Good xxx you ......" I am sure I wrote, "Good for you" but auto-correct sabotaged me! Grrrr!

I personally LOVE doing dishes by hand. I keep a dishpan in my kitchen sink and fill it with soapy water, add my dishes all day long. I have pets, so they have food bowls, and I'm also a big snack-eater. I'll make myself a sandwich or have a cup of coffee then set my dishes in the dishwater. Later on, they are a breeze to wash because nothing gets crusty or dried-on. My daughters think I'm crazy not to use my dishwasher, but it's so much simpler to hand-wash dishes a couple times of day. Takes maybe 5 minutes. I did have trouble finding a suitable dishpan. I had to go to three stores to find one that would work in my kitchen sink. Guess not too many think like me.

dayeanu, thanks for posting the pictures. That's a very pretty pattern. I love china, too! Lots of people have their weak spot when it comes to collecting; unfortunately mine is china! (Unfortunately because it takes up a lot of space even for one set.) I'm a little embarrassed to say that I have seasonal sets and I rotate through them. I'm even more embarrassed to say that I never rotated out the "wintertime" dishes this summer and here it is almost Autumn. Well, at least they're not Christmasy -- they're just not summery. (My mom tells me that her mother had winter and summer window curtains and would change them out with the seasons. I've never gotten to that point!) I know this is one of those last-stand things for me when it comes to decluttering. That, and books. *sigh*
