to do lists are intimidating and i ofen veer off into doing other things than what's on them... it all needs to be done though. i like the idea of rewarding ourselves by writing accomplishments so our minds can't 'diss' us for not doing stuff when we DID. much more encouraging.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i am loving the idea of less on both front and back balconies, so am thinking hard on what must stay and what can go, or at least be stored elsewhere (like all those little bags of potting soil, seed starting mix, etc.) also thinking i have amassed too many potted plants outside.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the painters have been super considerate and really easy to work with, and the swallows seem fine so far. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i'm making small headway in the kitchen. i would love to get the floor cleared; never seem to get that far but if i did, then i could clean it, which it badly needs. i hope that by Friday i have a good half carload of stuff to take to the Exchange. that is my goal. but no matter how much or little i have, i am going to take what i have there because there is no way to cancel it now.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I know what you mean about intimidating to-do lists, and they do sometimes make me feel bad when I did a lot less than planned. I might just switch to mission accomplished lists at times. I'm glad that the swallows are OK so far, the painters are respectful, and that you're getting this (forced) bonus of seeing the possibilities of your balconies being not so full. Enjoy your opportunity to redesign those spaces. That appointment with the Exchange on Friday is a great idea; it's like the flip side of having to clean and stash because guests are coming, except you get to pull stuff out, drive it away, and stash it at another place entirely! About that kitchen floor--I think there's "cleaning" and then there's CLEANing. I have often done the cheating version. An example would be to grab a wet rag or sponge, with or without soap, and concentrate on any visible spills. Or I might use a cleaning spray. Anyway, no mop or bucket is involved, and it takes about two minutes to make some improvement. Or I might do the entire visible area, depending on my mood, I have to say. It's the kitchen equivalent of sweeping or vacuuming the goat trails in other parts of the house. Maybe you already do this, and you're longing for the day the whole floor is clear. Anyway, you'll have more time for this once gardening season is over, I know. I always enjoy your posts over on the gardening thread.

creativechaos - I'm so glad the painters are being considerate of the swallows! So far, anyway. I like to make a list of ta-da's throughout the day. Sometimes I've kept track here, or written things down to post here later. I usually don't have a list to to-do's because they just come to me throughout the day. But on those flitting-around days, it's easy to lose track of what I've done, and it's gratifying to see how much I really did at the end of the day. And then brag about it, of course!

I'm glad I came back, because I forgot my laundry in the wash. I guess I'll leave it and go to bed.

Good Morning/Evening all! :)
creativechaos . Thank you for your kind thoughts and heartwarming support. I think container gardening is lovely. Best wishes to you for success today. :) When I had to drop everything to come help s/o in my family, I had to give away dozens and dozens of container plants. Some, I had to let die and then dispose of them on a return visit. One of the things I grieve about, in my circumstances. It is rewarding to read of others' gardening. :) mylittlescholar I hope you find a satisfying wardrobe in the process. :) --- Early Morning start of things done: Filled water filter pitcher Calculated recipe for soapmaking First round of supplements taken New supplements put away Prioritizing list of chores

hi NewLifeToday! oh that is sad about losing your plants. I am a dedicated vicarious gardener.
I woke up early, but spent most of it posting, and had to go back to sleep. missed out on the cool part of the day, but I didn't want to be cranky, especially around other people. I did get my laundry done.
I have some regret and shame coming up, having squandered a whole week without filling the dumpster. but extenuating circumstances, yadda yadda. I mention it because I've recently realized that not wanting to face these feelings can keep me procrastinating, and the best thing I can do right now is go ahead and get started!
I think I'll do my breathing app, and then find another comedian to watch.

I got started, and am posting the details on my moving blog. But as I am socially motivated, it helps me to check in here, too. Help is coming in two hours, which is both a blessing and a curse. It will keep me going and help us to get the big stuff out. But it might also be a distraction and stress. I'm going to assume it will be fine.

mylittlescholar I, too, hope your help is really a help. :) I often find help a mixed deal, but, I cannot always manage on my own. Some things are too heavy, too big, too much.... Other air purifier wiped down and filters changed. DIY evap. cooler gel packs changed. Few more canned goods off the floor and onto the pantry shelves. Bit more PUPA. Important phone calls made. Sit-down rest now.

wow! lots of action and good company on this thread! (i think i am more social than i admit). it's a boost to see you all here and follow along with some of your accomplishments too. thanks!
goldenthreads, thank you for the reminder that i can clean what areas i can now - even a rough clean - and the floor will still be cleaner than it was! and i love your take on how i can use the exchange appointment on Friday. i did go through a box of books at storage yesterday and got a small box to release from the first cull.
NewLifeToday; i'm so sorry you lost your container garden. it's hard to have to leave plants and let them die and i hope you can have containers again - even one potted plant brings such joy. that's so cool that you made your own soap! it's inspiring to see how committed you are to not only home care, but also care of your health. WTG on important maintenance (air purifier) and DIYS evap. cooler; well done on all the PUPA and getting your dailies done, and more.
mylittlescholar, ima jump over to your moving blog and see what's happening - you're doing fantastic on getting rid, recycling things to the greater stream, and wtg on getting rid of "too big" clothes! i hope your help is more of a help than a hindrance. sending support and cheers. you've got this!
thanks, sidestep for the vote of confidence and the encouragement!
thanks, larataylor - i'm glad the painters are being conscientious too. they're doing a great job. things are looking so nice around here - only a few really trashy yards left and it's nice to think of this as a sort of reset. i love reading all you get done on your blog. i think if i write down what i do that writing in a notebook will be good enough. but i do like to brag too. i dragged the local mgr who i never see anymore over to see my fence project. he loved it! so i am bragging. because i am proud of it too.
interesting day; time spent at garden weeding, watering, some deadheading - about 7 - 10 a.m. then zumba, then a healthy brunch, then a phone call to get coupons (20 bucks a month) for buying healthy vegies, then 1.5 hr call with pdoc - we went over some of my test results since she is a psychiatrist and an ARNP. so that was good.
i have a lot to do. painters are coming tomorrow to prep our bldg and they will spray on Friday. i may skip zumba and get out of here if they are prepping here. even thru closed curtains i don't want them to see me dancing or god forbid, see the piles and piles of hoard. maybe they will prep in afternoon and then i can still do zumba. if not, i'll do the garden then visit storage to see what i can cull toward bringing to the exchange.
i will have the office supply place print out their "will accept/will not accept" list to have with me. my appointment isn't til 3 pm on Friday so i hope i can make a few inroads. sure wish i had some help, what with the pain and bodily issues. will just do my best.
i'm making a to do list to keep on track...
NEEDS DOING TODAY: remove black netting off of building for the painters; pull out all staples. netting is all off but the previous person put a thousand staples in and then HAMMERED them flat and they were rusty. lots of pulling and tugging and twisting of wrists and prying. i hurt so bad!!! and there are still MORE staples to pull but it got dark and i worked on it for two hrs! somehow roll the clematis up in the netting, tie, and gently lie it down on the side of the little garden. i had to cut off about 3 feet of it but i think it's ok (i'm nervous about this but did the best i can. clematis have really brittle stems, so they can't be bent or twisted.) cut a board to fit in the last part of my "smoke free" zone and paint it the bldg color. screw on. the painters can then spray it when they paint on friday. i didn't get both sides painted so the downstairs neighbors have the "raw wood" and i also couldn't find my screws and driver. must find those before they paint Friday cut excess netting away from where it is sticking out from when i made my privacy area.
later today or tonight - or early tomorrow morning: food shop for specifics, make list.
maybe go back to garden to work some more on weeding... or maybe not. i'm pretty tired and sleep deprived... Nope. no time.
the rest of this will have to be done tomorrow and Friday. water garden and work on weeding and dead heading look around in the apt for things that i can donate to the exchange. load car with whatever is going out of here forever or to storage. make a trip to storage. (i may only come up with a box or two but that is better than nothing!)

Chores in the heat planned, verified, and done. Got to see family for a bit, that's the dearest part.
Passed up going to the grocery store on the way back, which required a little deliberate effort. Grocery stores have very cool air.
Brought in a few things from the car that I had left in there a month ago.
Soap poured into molds and covered.
Called a library about something I'm interested in that has nothing to do with chores. :)

creativechaos You are most industrious. :). Thank you for your kind thoughts and words. I have been thinking of getting something edible I can grow in a pot that will withstand the sun and heat and dry air here. I may go walk around the nearest nursery again, and see what strikes my fancy. When I was in the South, I had good success having clematis grow back after being sharply pruned. I really enjoyed seeing so many varieties of clematis there. I am sending happy thoughts to your home and garden. :)

creativechaos I'm glad you bragged to your manager and he loved your work! Now I am going to look up clematis. I'd like to increase my flora vocabulary.
yay for getting things done in the heat, NLT, and seeing family.
I'm taking a break, not so much from the heat, but the humidity. I honestly don't think I could have worked down there earlier. I gotta figure out when to sleep so that I can be back up in the cool morning, but I have finally gotten started so want to keep going.

haha NewLifeToday - this is why i don't normally make 'to do' lists. they sound industrious but most times i get little of it done, get sidetracked and do other things, etc. the only time i make to do lists is when i have a lot to do and don't want to have to keep it all in my head where i forget stuff.
mylittlescholar, if you can sleep in shifts and can nap, i highly recommend getting up at dawn. it's the coolest time of the day usually. plus, not many people are awake so the energy is clearer and quieter than that evening window. When it's so hot, things are so much harder, energy-wise.
i got some things done and checked some stuff off on my to do list- the important stuff. ran into problems (all those staples!!!) and my arms and upper shoulders are in a lot of pain. i have not had any dinner; i think it's gonna be cereal and then maybe earlier bedtime. still need more sleep than i'm getting!

Good Morning! :) mylittlescholar Hope you can find a work and rest schedule that suits you. I have to take rests, sometimes all of a sudden, due to the heat. creativechaos I have the same view of lists, simply for memory. Grocery store lists, esp., then have to remember to look at the list. ;) High stress times means more written notes for me, color coded, etc. Early bird chores done: Water kettle filled. Water pitcher filter filled. Tea made. Soap unmolded. This batch looks good. Early supplements taken. Picked up piece of lint off of floor. This is the "easy" category I am working to increase until it is easy routine, just PUPA and small bits of cleaning. Little by little, progress. :)
