I still don't have them all cleared out, ok it's more than 2 and less than 600 of them.
That number made me giggle.

So thats two out if the bathroom. Sorted one tote of electronics. What DO all those wires go to? So thats three. Going to start number four, another tote of electronics. Maybe i will find the things that go with the wires.

imamess - I can't take credit for that number.. One of the border collies in the series Mist, Sheepdog Tales when he was talking about his puppies said that number. I have been waiting for "the opportune moment" to use that number.

Confession, the emptying wasn't exactly "recent" or at least not all of it. I have been emptying bins since March of last year. I guess that averages out to about 2 per month. I just don't have the energy to tackle them all at once. But there are some almost empty ones in my closet that will be joining the ones in the barn soon.
IMHO, the bins in the attic of Christmas decorations don't count. They are supposed to be there.

Di as long as the bins of christmas decorations are packed and put away, they dont count. My half packed holiday bins that are in the bathroom do count because they arent packed and put away into the office closet. Even if youve been unpacking those bins for awhile, its still an impressive accomplishment. I went through the second tote of electronics. In reality, there was probably only one full tote, since both totes were half full of assorted stash and dash. Everything is sorted now, the keepers put away, the pending stuff is neatly packed on top of the washer (no room in the office right now for it). Have a small box of things to go out, and a small box of wires and cords to sort through. Packed up and put in office for now since wireboy joined me in the bathroom and he was in a chewing mood.

Unswamping You're on a roll tonight! WTG! I just condensed those 3 boxes of books - one box of "properly boxed" books for donations, and the lowest shelf on my bedroom bookcase 2/3rd's filled with the keepers. It's *great* the way I can fill 3 boxes haphazardly like that - anyone else could've gotten them into 2 if they'd put some thought into it. That box I filled for donations is jam-packed air-tight! I was chatting with someone who said they liked to shop (*grin*) but they get rid of stuff as soon as new stuff comes in. I said I had lots of stuff in storage (no mention of actual hoarding, just being vague) and she said she had *nothing* stored - except 5 bins of Christmas decorations! How can that be?! Maybe with a huge house, with built-ins and walk-ins??? IDK...could I ever get to that point, where my eye candy's on display and my clothes are in closets??? Uhhh...I suppose it could be my fantasy goal. HA!

cyn great job on condensing those boxes. Thats awesome your "keeper" shelf has breathing room. That woman sounds a little nuts. She likes to shop but throws stuff out right away, nothing stored except christmas decorations? Sounds weird to me. It would be nice to have everything in its place and the things we love on display. I would still probably have some stuff stored (photos, memorabilia, etc).

Unswamping I know, right? That's why I thought maybe their house was so huge: all kinds of fancy drawers built in beside fireplaces, hutches, buffets, armoires, you name it. Not gonna happen in a mobile!

Oh, speaking of showing off pretty things: on one of my hunts for DIY awesomeness I found a great project where someone had removed the top of an old dresser, and replaced it with glass - so that the drawer area was a display case! What a great idea, especially for those of us with nosy pets! "what will we wreck to-day-eee"

So glad you started this thread that I just found. I read on cyn 's blog about tackling the bins, which motivated me to get back to the bin I brought into the house probably 2 months ago, started, then left it sitting there. It is nearly empty now! I've written about this journey I started a few days ago in my blog, because I didn't know this thread had been started--so I won't repeat it all here. But in short, this bin is mostly full of diverse and misc. papers. I have been discarding the obvious junk, then separating the rest into categories, so in effect I am putting "like things with like" for now, so I can see what I have. Then on a second pass through I will figure out how to handle the categories that I've gathered. I can see that some likely will be keepers; have no idea yet about what to do with the others. It is like an archaeological dig! I don't dare stop and read the "interesting stuff" I'm finding, or I wouldn't make any progress at all. I have some bins, more boxes, and many more plastic bags filled with stuff--gathered in what I now know we call "stash and dash" desperation efforts. Sure glad we have this community that lets us know we all understand each other here!

Oh boy, you people are ON FIRE! Cyn -- superb work with condensing. I suspect your friend has plentiful built-in storage, and you know what? It's probably full of crap that she'll get around to sorting "one day". Di -- 28 empty bins! What a thing of beauty! My "bins" are boxes, and you've inspired me to go down to the garage and empty another one. Six years after leaving a certain job, I still have two boxes full of stuff trucked home from my office. There should be plenty of nice books hat I can sell.

peaceandfreedom great job on tackling that bin. The great thing about this forum is you are never alone, someone here is probably dealing with the same issues as you, whether or not they pist about. Im glad you are joining us! Together we can do it! emeraldine bring your boxes and bags to sort. Any "Bs" will do, actually any container or pile of stuff is grist for the mill. creativechaos yep, any "Bs" count here-bins, boxes, bundles, bolts. Since my B count is alot closer to 600 than 2, i will be here awhile, working though them.

Unswamping and cyn, by stored do you mean keeping stuff in boxes somewhere like the garage or the attic or having things in the closets, on the shelves and so on? I have things in boxes - like toys my nieces play with when they come to visit, but the boxes are on shelves. My christmas decorations are in boxes in the closet and they may end up on a top of the wardrobe after I reconstruct. Also that box of childrens books will go on the shelves then. Is that so unusual?

Unswamping, so--any "B" words, huh? Well, when I read that the word that popped into my brain was "BAGGAGE"! Isn't that what we are all dealing with everywhere, the "baggage" caused by too many years of inattention and neglect? We all drag around way too much "baggage" from our past. Here's to traveling lighter through life!

There are three boxes in my bedroom that I've been avoiding. Today at least one of them will be emptied and taken care of. Thanks for the motivation!
