Hello Lovely Stepping out of Squalorers, I am returning after quite a long while away from the forum, I was previously TheCatsMother, but I lost my old email address hence re-registering as Catcushion which I realise is, however much it reflects my aspirations, not a particularly proactive decluttering/cleaning sort of name! With the support of this forum I reached level 1 in most of my house (bar the spare room which has become the scary place full of stuff that's uncomfortable to tackle) but things have been sliding progressively over the last couple of years. I am in a job which I am lucky enough to like but it is incredibly hectic and I end up doing long hours, coming home and collapsing. The routines all dwindled away and apart from my bedroom which (huge heap of clothes on top of chest of drawers aside) I have managed to keep tidy, the house is a tip again. I think not as bad as it was 5 years ago but getting that way... and the outside sadly is again embarrassing to the point that I avert my eyes from it. I've been lurking for a few days and procrastinating house work, mostly because of being incredibly busy at work rather than a need to pluck up courage to post, but this evening when I came in after a day out I was greeted by the much dreaded sound of a blocked drain... It's the third time this has happened in 5 years and I'm hoping it will turn out to be for the third time a blockage in the water company's part of the drain rather than the part I'm responsible for. But it involves getting a plumber in and probably people to stick a jet down it, which is stressful enough at the best of times and even worse when the place is a mess. So over the next couple of days (actually I'm quite relieved it's Easter so no point even trying to contact the plumber until Tuesday) I plan on making a start with the housework and getting back into good routines. I don't want to stress myself out getting into crisis cleaning mode, but just to Work In Threes or maybe do several Dice Challenges, which I've found helpful in the past. Even if my house is still objectively messy or looks so to anyone else, such improvement as I can manage in a couple of days will make me feel better when I have to let people in. But looking at the cluttered table in front of me I feel at a loss again as to how it happens, it's as if the wretched stuff breeds. Looking forward to meeting old friends here and people who have joined more recently

catcushion welcome back! You may not have picked a desqualoring name but it is probably an apt description (as i am typing this, i am being a catcushion to my oldest). I think its a great name. Im sorry the house has been sliding again but it sounds like you were an sos success story in the past. You know how to do it, what is involved in cleaning up. Join a thread or maybe even come into chat. Having company here when you are cleaning up certainly makes it easier.

Hello Unswamping, thank you for the welcome and it's nice to meet a fellow cat cushion! The cat in my profile pic is my dear old girl Daisy, who died two years ago and I love that photo, she had such a distinctive and rather fierce little face! I am fostering a lovely cat now; she's been with me over a year as she's elderly, rather high maintenance and difficult for the sanctuary to find a home for, so I think she's with me for good! With luck my job will be going permanent in the next few months and if, when, that happens I plan to adopt her formally. How many cats do you have?

catcushion i dont think daisys face is fierce, i think its very beautiful. Im sorry she is no longer with you. I hope your job goes permanent and you can give formally adopt your foster. I have four now, a mom and her three "kittens". (The "kittens" just turned four but nobody has told them that. They are as frisky and playful as the day they were born. Actually, more so, they are bigger and smarter now). I love them so much and they all have different looks and personalities. They are good motivation to clean up my home.

Welcome Back...Have you tried putting baking soda down the sink followed by vinegar and then boiling water. This could save you some money not to mention...then you could clean the way you want without a rush.

Welcome back! I like your new name. I used to read your name as The Cat Smotherer, because I need glasses. Desperately. I'm also happy you've a job you like, even if you're adjusting to the demand on your time. You can do it (again)!

Definitely don't do far too much in a short time then crash and burn.
Being out all day is good IF we are in a good state of maintenance and there isn't much to do. Coming home exhausted when there is a lot of catching up to do is not good.
There is a very strong product called One Shot that professional plumbers use for drain clearing.

Back again, I didn't stay around long, a lot of distracting stuff happened in 2016-17 but over the last couple of years I've made some progress, with my spare room cleared out and outdoors more or less under control - not pretty but no longer a source of shame! I've pretty much "plateaued" in level 1 though and after being reminded of this lovely forum (I found myself recommending it to someone on another group) thought I'd better get over here. Very amused if also slightly alarmed you thought I was called TheCatSmotherer missjean Good to be back!
