Hi,
How do I upload my own avatar from my pics? I don't think my pics have an url....How did Missy upload that pic for her avatar?

minnibella, Missy uploaded the image to a photobucket account. You can use photobucket or flickr. I have a yahoo geocities account, and that where I've stored my avatar.
You have an LJ account - you could probably store the image in your ScrapBook.
There are a lot of possibilities, but the short answer is that this forum software won't directly upload your avatar from your computer and store it. It needs to be somewhere on the internet, publicly available.

Hi AH, maybe we should add that the flickr or photobucket albums can be made public or only so that "friends" can see the pics one uploads there. At first i didn't know this was an option.  |

I had to set the width and height of my avatar properly before it would show.
another thought, silly as it is, make sure you actually hit modify
and you can double check to make sure that the avatar url didn't get snarfed somehow by trying it again in another browser window, just for fun's sake.

Mouse, what's the URL? It needs to be recognizably an image, so LJ avatar URLs won't work. If we know the image source, we may be able to figure out what's happening.

Unfortunately, that style of URL won't work. The URL needs to end in something like .gif or .jpg, and even though that image resolves to a jpg, it's not made explicit. Try this: pics.livejournal.com/mousme/pic/0001sac5.jpg |

How do you get back to the page where you can ADD an avatar? Everytime I click on my user ID, I get to my Profile page. I'm trying to get back to my Manage Account page.

Little_Ninja, when you click on your profile, you'll see a line of bolded text at the top-ish of the page. "Member's Bio - Modify Profile - Bookmarks" Member's Bio will be a different colour than the other two, because that's the page you're currently on. When you modify your profile, you'll have to enter your current password before you hit submit, too. I always forget.

Celeste kindly revised my avatar for me when she saw I was having trouble, and I put it on Flickr. But, although it works just fine from Celeste's site, from Flickr AH couldn't see it. The odd thing is that I could see it when I used the Flickr image url. farm3.static.flickr.com/2400/2524601141_a24a739bef_m.jpg It didn't work from the Live Journal site's url, and it didn't work from another personal site I have (not available to the public, which is probably why), so I tried using Celeste's site url & it worked. Does anyone have any ideas? I tried making the image public vs. private, but that did not solve the problem. The size is 100 x 100, so that shouldn't be the problem. BTW, public vs. private images doesn't matter apparently, as onwardandupward has her avatar image set to private, yet it still shows up here. edited to add:I created a Photobucket account and put my avatar there this morning. I have updated my profile to link to the image at Photobucket for my avatar here. Is it visible to anyone else now? It is visible to me, but so was the other one when it wasn't visible to others, so I don't know if it is now either. |
