Getting outside always helps me. Talking to someone helps too. Can u go take a walk and see a neighbor? Human contact is a very good thing For me being busy distracts me messymimi had a good idea of listening to upbeat music. Is there anything u like to do but rarely get to. I love to browse in bookstores for example but don't get to do it that often. That cheers me. Getting enough but not too much sleep Taking a long hot shower

If you're stuck-stuck in the moment here is an interactive self-care guide much like the one daye posted, but step by step and written for people who have a hard time self-regulating or figuring out what their body is telling them. It is very, very basic, for when you feel like you aren't functioning at all. It does contain mild profanity. "You feel like s---." <click>Unfortunately, I got a 404 when I clicked on it. I searched, found a link, posted it here, and it gave me a 404 not found. I think the problem is the word s#*t in the link. PROBOARDS changes it to ****. If you search "you feel like **** (actual word spelled out), it should show up.

Hmm... I self-censored it in the text of the link, I didn't dream it would change the address the link connected to. Sorry all. I've made a smaller url that takes out the words, it appears to be working in my browser, but there's sometimes issues with edited urls having staying power: SOOS Members of the Future, I can't vouch that this is what it's meant to be: Currently working link for self-care interactive...

I forgot the most important thing, , , to ask for help and support Keeping the thoughts to yourself makes the spiral downwards even steeper.
Don't forget to find something to make you laugh... maybe some other members can put some links to humorous stand-up comedy from YouTube... in need of a laugh myself today...

Good psychiatrists, medication and helpful counselors helped me the most. Other things mentioned also helped: physical activity, getting enough sleep, taking time for self care activities, doing something fun, talking with friends, church attendance, all this helped. Also this online resource helped me, and I think I learned of it on this board: moodgym.anu.edu.auI've had several episodes of major depression over the years. There is a very strong family history of depression on both sides, with several close relatives being hospitalized with it. More than one psychiatrist has advised me to stay on antidepressant medication long term. Prozac saved my life. I've also been on paxil and currently take wellbutrin /buproprion. It took a while to accept that I need antidepressant meds as much as I need blood pressure medication every single day.
