Just dove into it this AM!!
I hustled for 2 hours never stopping to touch anything else in any other room that needed doing when I got stuff from the table to the proper place. I was feeling like I had just given up on the entire left side of the kitchen, averting my eyes, and zoning out on what a mess it was.
That side already has 19 small empty cardboard boxes for books donation, all tumbled over a huge rug I dumped behind the table, a rug I can't use yet, more boxes of old tax receipts, a 4' tall silver glitter halloween anatomically articulated skeleton...really? oh yeah he's cool. But now in the work studio.
Misc clutter: the lid to a cool yellow tea kettle I burnt the bottom out on, a box of curtain sheers I forgot to donate to the Vets. and more clutter which needs to go. sigh.
I will take on that "floor" area another day...
Next: just getting rid of all the mystery cloth shopping bags filled with some kinda stuff in them, hanging on every spindle of every chair around the table. oh and the padded seats are now flat and hard, and the screws have fallen out on 3 of them so the 'seat' is sideways or half off..another sigh. those need recovering and repair.
Can you tell there is no "fine dining" at my table? Of course the cat LOVES the parcours workout adventure and exploring underneath. She hops into a banana box and stares at me, wanting me to play by sticking my finger into the holes..but I am smarter than that! I use her feather toy until my back gives out from bending over to amuse a cat.

Thanks Def6! got up this morning and was shocked to see the cleared off table! (pre caffeine dose!) lt It looked like a big flat island in a sea of "what is that junk?" your mind does forget after seeing it piled up for so long....will work hard to keep it a tidy spot. Made all the other chair clutter like a surrounding "moat challenge" for me to attack it soon. Today the seamstress comes for all the fabrics and clothes**..yea!!! I even put in my holiday shoes- black velvet flats embroidered with cheerful orange pumpkins and trailing green vines.. worn them 4 times in 20 years? __________________________ I washed the last of the weird free dresses, all heavy white cotton, then dyed, then stamped and puff painted in bizarre designs like "travel" : planes, autos and cameras floating on bright red, and one black and gold tribal zigzags. This lady now sells only on Easy it seems- www.etsy.com/shop/vctorias?ref=l2-more-about#aboutin the 80's this business was doing larger sizes, some local shop here could not sell them I guess. and dumped the whole inventory.. I have given away dozens of custom hand painted pants, and tops, skirts, over the years. these are the last. hhttps://www.etsy.com/market/v_c_torias The dresses sell for $168!!!

Amazing work! I looked at the Etsy page..interesting textile work. I can see why free dresses came home with you. Dare I say it...there might be some merit in designating your newly cleared dining room table as a sorting station. A flat surface to bring things to and sort into the keep and go piles. Most of us need a work area like this at some point in the process. Maybe you already have one going? Any hoo, clear might be the light in the darkness right now. Maybe a nice decor arrangement? If clear is the goal..defend it like crazy. Anything that sits on the surface for more than a day risks magnetically attracting another thing, then another, and so on.

Hooray! For a clear kitchen table! Make a rule: only sorting or something decorative goes on it! Get ready for kitty to enjoy lounging on it also.

ohblondie there is STILL something magical on seeing a clear table.. Angela you know that is a GREAT Idea..since I am still wiping all the dust off the big tray with all the 'cute' things I love..I am going to box them for all year, and bring out in winter as they are "dark' thinks, wintery... Since my kitchen counters are piled up with semi sorted donation stuff I can really use a flat spot! I am embarrassed that the last meal on it was 3 years ago in Decemener, I knocked myself out thanking the two gay guys for helping me during my stroke recovery...used my best dishes, made a big meal, fancy wineglasses, all the best cloth napkins, an ice chest with every bottle of drinkypoo I had...and then slowly PILES and old mail and too much to deal with. The living room Open design is now feeling so spacious with 14 boxes and totes all GONE.... It still has SMALL clutter all over, but here is the best the LR looked in 2014 . .I am aiming for this again..when I see pics of the messes I get more depressed..if I look at it "clean" I am more inspired, the OPPOSITE is true of pics of me thinner... I start believing I STILL look that good...so I have to post the worst ones to stick to improving. PS the horse statue is not a lamp, the lamp shade behind it looks bad in this pic.

I noticed the horse statue first and the sewing machine next since that's exactly where my interests lie. I like your living room.

I have an 1888 fiddleback singer that belonged to dh. It was stored for over 20 years in a damp building and one day he decided he wanted me to get it out. He was so upset when he saw the rustsickles and said he would probably have to throw it away. I started putting oil on it and when the wheel turned a little bit, I told him no, we could restore it. It took over two months, but it sews. I did the head (I had to take it all the way to the metal, prime and paint) and the wood cabinet and he took apart and cleaned the metal base. I primed and painted the head and base with car touch up paint. Pricey, but I wanted it to last. Then I went over the Singer symbol on each side of the base with gold model car paint. Then I made the mistake of letting a friend paint flowers on it. She is an artist, but did a kindergarten job on my machine and I still get riled up about it. Someday I'm going to clean it off, repaint and just put a gold Singer waterslide decal on it.
