quite a few people have heard about my couch saga and for those that haven't... mom got the couch. it was one of the few things she ever just spent a fair chunk of money on and bought brand new and had delivered and she loved it. It has been an amazingly comfy couch.. I have slept on it hundreds of nights, dozens of friends have crashed on it either for a few hours or overnight. many movies have been watched on it, and it's where mom retreated to for many naps, especially during chemo...
The couch has been ravaged by time and cats and ferrets however. it's been clawed down to the woodframe, it smells of nosewrinkleinducing ferrets and it's just totally thrashed..
well i finished thrashing it. took a box cutter to it, sliced off the upholstery. used needle nose pliers to pull out a few key pieces, took the jigsaw to it and cut off the arms and cut the frame in half. stuffed all the stuffing and upholstery pieces into a bag and hauled it bit by bit down to the dumpster. cried the entire time i did it. crying right now. i miss mom. but having a gross couch won't bring her back. so it's gone.
i kept a swatch of the material to scrap book. and i kept these fiberfilled plush pieces that are basically huge pillows to make a pair of body pillows out of and new throw pillows for our new futon.. the couch lives on..... in a more convenient and aesthetically appealing form..
the end

. Some of the couch lives on. You will always have your memories, too.

What an accomplishment! You will enjoy looking at that empty space, and smelling the absence of stinky couch. Good idea to save a swatch for scrapbook. Joy in Virginia

yes. a swatch that has been zigzagged stitched so it won't fray to pieces and hucked in washer now.. no more stank. the couch will live on in dignity heh.

Resting now? What a huge accomplishment. Hacked up, removed, and taken out to the trash bin. A very large task indeed.

Djollydjolan, you did GREAT !!! You were wise to keep a swatch and the pillows. I like how you wrote "the couch lives on..... in a more convenient and aesthetically appealing form." Very neat idea! My thoughts are with you, Djolly.

Fantastic, Djollydjolan! A major accomplishment, not just in physical labor and desqualoring, but in adjusting your attitude to the reality that the gross couch is not a fitting memory to your mom, but that you have so many real and substantive memories that cannot be ravaged by time, cats, or ferrets! :-D

I'm impressed. It sounds like it was a huge task both physically and emotionally, and you did it.

Djolly ya done good! Keeping a piece of the couch's fabric was a great idea! I wish I had done that in the past. I agree...you have substantial memories that can't be ravaged by ferrets or cats. As a person who had MANY things ravaged by cats, mice, and an occasional intruding squirrel, I think you have hit it on the nailhead. The couch will live on in a convienient and more asthetically appealing form. 3G
