Last year ohblondie started a Lenten challenge for people of any and all or no faiths who wanted to use the 40 days of Lent to accomplish a goal or a challenge. If I knew how to post a link to her original thread I would, as she explained it so well. It may be related to decluttering or health or fitness or whatever. I know it is a little bit late as Lent began on Feb 14. So we have some catch up as it is feb 17. But I loved the challenge so I decided to do it again and am posting In case anyone else wants to join in. Easter is Sunday, April 1.

I am going to do a challenge of donating or gifting 40 items. Last year I did donations of 40 items of my clothing. This year I am going to expand and count any item. These won’t be things that can be thrown away but nice items that someone else can enjoy.

Thanks for posting this challenge magda. Great goal. If you have read my blog, you may have seen that I have been having some stomach issues, and had wondered if wheat or gluten was bothering it. Not to mention that I seem to crave a lot of high carbs, which may or may not be related. I have tried to go gluten-free before, but I think I didn't give my trial a long enough chance. So actually I have decided (unrelated to a religious goal, more co-incidence) to go gluten-free for the duration of Lent. I started Feb 14, and today is Day 4. I know some Lent practices do not include Sundays, but I intend to do every day. I'm interested to see what others are giving up.

Thanks for starting this Magda.....I can try to find the original post. I think I might make mine health related as well. More vegetables and no carbs. And some type of exercise or physical activity every day. I will start tomorrow. ...just left a family gathering after a family funeral.

Day 4 gluten-free done - I had a head start. This AM (day 5) I trialled a GF 'bread' you make in a mug in the microwave - as I had posted in my blog a few days ago. Each 'cup loaf' makes 3-4 slices, so 1 cup's worth should last me a full day. (They are small.) Not bad although I had poached eggs on the 2 slices so far today. Magda - congrats on your first gifted toy. Good to see dtesposito and ohblondie joining us. So sorry for your loss ohblondie.

Hi I hope to get some progress in this challenge I am “behind” by 4 items as Lent started last weds (for the 40 days in the church calendar, Sunday’s do not count )
I’d like to get in the rhythm of daily posting and daily giving, because for me, this is tied to my Christian faith and it would be sacrificial giving in honor of Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday. So I better get moving!!!

Hollyhock, do a Google search for "Fathead Dough". It is the very best gluten free bread substitute I have ever tried. Not just gluten free, but also very low carb! Do make it with unsalted butter, because mine came out a little too salty. If you add some kind of sweetener it can make wonderful cookies too!

I will do paper again this year--10 pieces per day, only things that I've saved or filed, not trash or junk mail that goes right into recycling. Let's see, that's 400 pieces--how long do I have? Does Lent end on the day before Easter??

Thanks magda, I spent a long time this afternoon going through some very old records in my file cabinet, and was able to get rid of some paper, so as of today I'm at 57 of 400 pieces. Some of these were 20 year old items, so it was time for them to go!

Thank you for mentioning this megtreb. I had never heard of fathead anything. It looks like most use it for pizza, and I found a roll recipe, but so far no bread recipe after a short search, but it does look really interesting. I like the idea of being able to make a GF pizza, if I want. The recipe kind of reminded me of 'cloud bread' which only contains eggs and cream cheese I think. I haven't tried it yet. At this point I haven't bought any gluten-free flours except for the gluten-free Bisquick. Yesterday completed Day 7 of being Gluten-free. I am keeping track on a grid in my bullet journal.

Hello magdaI would love to join the thread for lent during this time of year. It is such a blessing to have the opportunity to improve on what I am currently doing. I have so many areas to work on. I would like to find a receipe that I love to serve for "meatless Mondays" I would like to get a pile together for bulk garbage pick up(I can put out 1 pile per week) I want to plan (and execute) for a free(or almost free) date for me and dear hubby. I want to start a compost pile in my back yard. Well that is enough for now. Everyone have fun doing this. So sorry ohblondie for your loss.
