I still struggle with excess shopping. I cut WAY back when we were down to one income for over a year due to job loss. But even tonight, I walked down the mark down aisle at Wal-Mart, dreaming of purchasing all the crap that no one in their right mind would want, except me, because they had big sale stickers on them!
I ended up with two packages of scented colored pencils, for the two younger kids to color with. A wooden cat head scented thingy to hang in my car to keep it fresh. And I did not get a bunch of flip flops (only $2 a pair), or beads to decorate the flipflops like I saw at a craft fair. Or junk food, cos I'm on a diet anyhow.
So I did better tonight than usual, but next time I will try to say....What would CourageouslyLion_SeeksSerenity do? (Not meaning to be disrespectful to the WWJD crowd!) But this will be helpful to me. We have been friends for quite a while now, through SqualorSurvivors and other squalor busting sites. I think that it will help me to take a step back from any item with a red sale sticker, and think...what would CLSS do in this situation? Will this sale item improve my home, or the happiness of my family? I will try to find other ways to satisfy that feeling of "not enough".
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! I may need to read your posts several times to fully get it, but I know that this was just what I needed to "hear"!
And thanks to everyone else for their thoughts, too.

So I did better tonight than usual, but next time I will try to say....What would CourageouslyLion_SeeksSerenity do? dear ccl, I also thought that CourageouslyLion_SeeksSerenity said it so well and it really hit a spot in my heart and soul. Although we are doing OK financially, i too have a difficult time opting out of not getting "a good deal" (especially with books and craft materials!) Not going to a yearly flea market sponsored by a local school a few days ago, is the result of that posting.

- Thanks catlady and ramatama.
I must acknowledge that I was just re-stating from my own experiences -- what I've learned from all of you.
