My house is back into third degree. Not horrible with clutter, but enough to where I don't want to be in certain rooms again. I am afraid to do the dishes, because what if something crawls out of them? There was a cockroach in the bathtub last night. When I saw it, I knew it must be a multiple of three months since I last put out the bait, and sure enough it was. You have to put it out every three months, or they come back. I did it in July, September, and need to now.
The guinea pig cage has not been cleaned in over a week. I have clean laundry in the baskets, so you can guess where the dirty goes. The trash is full. We assembled and ate tacos on my bed last night because all other surfaces were dirty. How is that for a squalorful moment? Anyway, there is taco bits and cheese all over my bed, and on the floor (was eating with two six year olds) and the bed did not have a sheet on it.
I am home early because the high school I was working at today had a bomb threat. My afternoon assignment requires me to leave here by 12 (I really should have gone there early, I am supposed to spend the whole day working somewhere, no matter what). So anyway, that gives me an hour and a half.
I am going to take before and afters (they usually motivate me because then I think maybe I can motivate somebody else) and I will time it to see how long it takes me to do this.
I am off to clean!

Go, blackswan, go! The inspiring others part worked already: I went and switched the laundry to the dryer, and took the time to actually make the bed neatly, instead of leaving the more-or-less-straight spread over haphazardly tugged sheets. Thanks.

A mostly clutter free house can be cleaned, and you can get a lot done.
I'll get these dishes done in your honor.

I did empty out one laundry basket, pick up dirty clothes in my house, and mostly clean my bedroom. I am going to finish tomorrow before my son comes home. He is sleeping over at my sister's. I want him to come home to the gift of a clean house.

Very inspiring! I did a little today. Good for you in making a clean home for your son.
I started mount paper in the living room. Made a good size dent.

I am joining you in pledging to clean. Everything went to heck around here on Thanksgiving. My 95 yr old father took a bad fall and ended up in the hospital. The same day one of my cats died. So I have been crying about the cat, rushing back and forth to the hospital (and now to the skilling nursing section of a rehab place since he was moved out of the hospital after a week), and also trying to keep lengthy medical appointments for my kidney transplant evaluation. What I have not done is clean or pick up anything. I finally ran out of dishes today, so I guess it is time to pick myself up and go on. As I type, the dishwasher is running the first load. In the morning I will run another load before I go to see Papa. I am going to push myself to get out from under the mess that has built up on top of my "normal" mess. I may not be able to feel Christmasy, but at least I can get clean.
