You can do this! You will find that when you get that kitchen finished, it will be easier to move on to the next and you can wash things in the kitchen because it is clean. Good luck to you!

Sounds like you may have hit upon a great solution for yourself! A big congrats for what you have accomplished in the last hour as well. I'm so weary of the way my family is living. Boy, if I were in your shoes, I would take this opportunity to "protect" that clean kitchen. I would decide what needs to be done to keep the kitchen the way it is, then sit the family down and share the new "rules of the kitchen" in your house. Some ideas...... - Dirty dishes must always be placed in the ____________ (sink? dishwasher?).
- Spills get cleaned up right away with paper towels.
- Personal belongings do not get left behind in the kitchen.
- Everything that goes into the microwave gets covered, except water, tea, coffee.
Other suggestions? !!!! I was just thinking - if you are like me, when you finish the kitchen, you will keep coming back and staring at it! You know, another thought just popped into my head. Before moving on tomorrow to another room, why not take some time - say a week or more - to practice maintaining the kitchen. Because it will take time to learn new habits for yourself and also to keep after the family with gentle reminders. No nagging! !! If you are present when someone "breaks" a rule, don't say anything. Just hand them a paper towel, their keys, backpack, dirty cup/glass/plate, etc. They, too, need to get used to seeing what a clean, uncluttered kitchen looks like. Do you have ideas on what to do daily and weekly in the kitchen to keep it as nice looking as it it now? Here.......... .......you deserve this, or something stronger. !!! Good luck!

Yay!!! good for you. I started with just my kitchen table! You are doing the whole kitchen!! Yes you must protect the clean area. I threatened my family with bodily harm if they messed it up! My kitchen is still clean. The dishes get done every night. It is now a habit. The family puts all dishes in the sink without being asked. Now that I know how to maintain that area I have been adding parts of my living room and my bedroom to the cleaning and maintaining schedule. You can do it, too. Just create new habits for yourself and your family.
