I fallen back deeply and badly at times. It helps to remember which chores are essential and to make them as simple and quick to do as possible. To remember, too, that some of them are so much easier when done daily (litter boxes) and that a slap-dash job is better than nothing.
This all gets me through until my motivation for progress hits again (or I have time to even think about it)

Thank you everyone for the love and support. I think I would like to keep this thread going instead of making a new one, so go ahead and move it where you think it fits best.
Yesterday I didn't get my whole list done but I did get a good deal of it.
Good things from yesterday were that I had emptied to receipts and papers from the door pocket of the van into a shoe box and I dealt with it. I found a check still good to cash and some lotto tickets which netted me $11
In the desk cleaning I found an old gift card, I do still need to see if it's good / if there is a balance on it.
I've maintained the clean space on the desk.
I did something I'd been dreading: 2 very nasty stinky pots in the kitchen were dumped and filled with bleach water.
I got two loads of laundry washed and hung on the line.
Today's Agenda:
Breakfast Chores Plant: marigolds, beets, squash, tomatoes Clear a garden bed steps on the hill (I have a pen of chickens on a steep hillside and am putting boards to make steps / terraces) shade cloth (It's getting hot and I need to get it up so the dog and chickens don't roast this summer) fix the water ( To make it easier to fill the water on the hillside pen I have a flex line run up there that I can just attach the hose to down below instead of dragging the heavy hose all the way up there, but the fittings leak like a sieve. I've found the new fittings and want to get that fixed) 15 min on paperwork / desk kitchen laundry afternoon chores

And a question for you all: Do any of you have trouble with what should be simple, automatic self care things like brushing your teeth?

And a question for you all: Do any of you have trouble with what should be simple, automatic self care things like brushing your teeth? Oh, yes. I can work for hours in the yard and feel that brushing my teeth is a big chore. I don't know why.

And a question for you all: Do any of you have trouble with what should be simple, automatic self care things like brushing your teeth? Yes. Absolutely. Teeth have yet to be brushed today, hair has just been pulled back in a slightly greasy ponytail. I have to have showering twice a week as a notification on my phone, along with things like cutting my fingernails. On days when I'm getting up and going out (e.g. workdays), it is automatic, but not on other days. Edit: Today, I'll brush my teeth and make sure my hair is okay before I go out to vote (local elections) but I might not think to if I wasn't going out.

larataylor and Minerva thanks, glad I'm not alone! I have no idea why I don't do those things either! If going to work or out in public, then yes, I usually remember to brush my teeth and at least take a rag bath. But if I'm just at home alone then doesn't always happen! And at the end of the day I seem to just fall into bed and not do any of those things "normal" women do..... like take a shower, brush your teeth, put on lotion, ect. Now come to think of it, I used to do those things every night ..... when there was a man in the picture..... perhaps there is a clue there

Today's Agenda: 5/2/19 (I will edit this post through the day) Breakfast Chores Plant: marigolds, beets, squash, tomatoes (ran out of potting soil so will have to make some up in the morning) Clear a garden bed clean coop & compost: I do still need to put down fresh bedding, clean and disinfect the waterbuckets steps on the hill (I have a pen of chickens on a steep hillside and am putting boards to make steps / terraces): well nope shade cloth (It's getting hot and I need to get it up so the dog and chickens don't roast this summer) Got a small piece put up, need to find more of the bigger ones. fix the water ( To make it easier to fill the water on the hillside pen I have a flex line run up there that I can just attach the hose to down below instead of dragging the heavy hose all the way up there, but the fittings leak like a sieve. I've found the new fittings and want to get that fixed) the part I had wasn't the right size and someone stole the part I need right out of the package at the store and it was the last one 15 min on paperwork / desk: I spotted a really little box of papers, sorted, shredded and filed. Finished up the 15 minutes shredding from the big box. kitchen I didn't actually do 15 min on the kitchen but I'm counting that I washed up the 2 nasty pots from yesterday! and while dinner cooked I ran hot water and bleach in the empty sink to soak overnight laundry folded the dry stuff, washed and hung another load afternoon chores Drink more water!: 4 pints down All in all a very productive day. I didn't kill myself, just worked at a steady pace. Came inside whenever I was tired or thirsty and set my timer for 15 minutes so I wouldn't get lost in the computer. I am tired, but it's a good tired and my mood is so much better than a couple of weeks ago! So now I'm going to BRUSH MY TEETH and go to bed.

maryaz - I get inspiration from lucie's blog, My Home In Dreams. I feel as if there is so much stuff to do that's more pressing than taking care of myself, and I exhaust myself on it. Also things more pressing to pay for than anything just for me. So no clothes for me, no haircuts or anything just for fun.

I know when I first left the kids dad, many years ago and first became a single mom I didn't buy anything at all for myself, even tho my shoes were falling off my feet and my clothes had nearly more air than cloth. I had to learn to not feel guilty if I put myself first sometimes.

I had to learn to not feel guilty if I put myself first sometimes. Years and years of poverty can make not spending for yourself habitual. I can spend money if it's an investment, but spending for fun makes me anxious. This doesn't explain not brushing teeth, though! Because we all know that neglected teeth will demand attention and get very expensive. I think maybe it becomes an encompassing idea that I don't matter.

Isn't it funny how our brains work sometimes. Like the other day I dropped the box of qtips and didn't pick up the ones that fell out. Left a pile of toilet paper bits from cleaning a wound on a chicken just sitting there. Everyday I saw these things when I used the toilet, like many times a day. But the space heater is sitting in front of the cupboard door where the bathroom trash is and it's such a pain to move everything to get in there. (space heater will go to another area for summer but I havne't got that space cleaned up yet). SO WHY DIDN'T I JUST GET A BAG AND PICK UP THE STUFF AND THROW IT AWAY IN THE OTHER ROOM? ?? I have NO idea!

You are not alone in having problems with simple self care. I do brush my teeth every evening, but I have to force myself to wash my hair. I am here to keep myself accountable and I try to work on my selfcare. Welcome to this forum.

thank you lucie Sometimes I just wonder why I don't do certain things. Like last night I did go brush my teeth but really I should have taken a shower; I just didn't.

So Today is Friday. Usually i would have vegetables to pick, wash and pack for farmers market tomorrow. But I was not able to get things planted in Jan, Feb and March because I was dealing with getting moms house emptied and sold. So I have been trying to get geared up and everything planted for my summer market which is much bigger.
Today's Agenda
Breakfast Chores Clean Nest boxes Water buckets: This took a lot longer than I anticipated. But I was watering plants and doing some other things as I would wait for the disinfectant to dry.
Desk Did 15 min while I had my tea and cleaned out one cubby: did another 30 minutes and cleaned out 2 more cubbies
Kitchen Got the dishes washed up while dinner cooked. Haven't made any new progress in there but I have managed to maintain the clear spots I have. Laundry: oops I put a load to wash but forgot to hang it up
Water plants Mix potting soil: It got too hot before I got to this, to be standing in the sun. Will see if I can do it this evening Cut Flowers and Herbs
Shade cloth I didn't get any new put up, but fixed some that was falling down. Steps on Hill Clear and prep garden bed Plant: Marigold Squash Tomato Basil
1 thing in LR
stuff in car brought in an armload, mostly dirty dishes
Afternoon chores Brush teeth Shower
Drink More Water: 4 pints down My daughter that lives an hour away came to use the computer to print out a job app that she couldn't get printed at home. It got hot and I ran out of steam for outdoor work, so came inside to do other things. The unannounced visit did throw me off and I lost my momentum.
Remember the water line I was trying to fix? Well guess what I found when I got junk out of the car. Yep both parts, the right size that I need to do that. Have no idea when I bought them!

maryaz - go to it! I've given up so many things I love doing to get this house in order. I'm just beginning to think about gardening, composting, growing vegetables, etc. Sanity First is one of my mantras
