I've been pretty *** this week and I really let it slip when it comes to laundry/my room in general. It's so easy for my room to get messy because even though there is a bathroom in the hall...me, hubby, and son all shower in the master bathroom. DS is the worst for putting dirty clothes and towels in the hamper, then end up on my bedroom floor...DH is getting better, but still messy. DS also has a "floor bed" in our room made up of like 6 blankets and 2 pillows and a teddy. He wakes up every single night at like 3am and he was waking us up too, until I made this floor bed now he lays down there when he wakes up. So since we have a dog, I'm forever having to pick up and wash those blankets, because the dog likes to sleep down there with DS. So, anyway...my room is a disaster. Those blankets need washed, my dresser is piled up with junk, there are clothes *everywhere* that need to be washed, I need to change my sheets...and the floor needs a good vacuuming.
AGH!!!!!

it's kind of dumb but when i start to hate laundry it really helps me to do two things- have some sort of perspective on it being one of the few things around my home where i shove something dirty in a mechanical box, add some stuff that smells good, transfer it to a magical mechanical box that dries it and it comes out clean. if only everything around here got cleaned that easily:/ and then tossing some stuff.. 'cause if the laundry's overwhelming it usually means i have too much junk. aside from that, empathy to you... trying to catch up with stuff that's gotten out of hand starts to feel overwhelming... wishing you luck getting it dealt with, know you can do it:)

I hate laundry too! I have to do mine tonight, I have nothing to wear. I don't know WHY I hate it so much, it seems pretty simple. You put it in one machine, you wait, you put it in another, you wait. But I think the hard part is having to put it all away. I really hate putting it away!
And I never do enough laundry at a time to completely catch up, and even if I say I am going to do more, I never do it until I have nothing to wear, so I constantly have too much dirty laundry at my house! Maybe my goal over my vacation could be finally getting it under control! If I could just do that, I could do one load every two or three days, and be happy with that, couldn't I? And then I would basically have all of my clothes clean, all of the time, except for the ones I have worn in the last two or three days.
I wish I could just do it!

I am 'not too bad' with laundry (as opposed to dusting and decluttering books).
Still, I often used to feel resentful and cranky about this chore. In my more squalid past, I had to carry the baskets up and down from cellar of doom to second floor chaos (leaking roof, destroyed plaster, staircase in shambles). I hated seeing this state of affairs in my home.
THEN......I witnessed something which instantly changed my attitude. We were in Italy near DH's home town. We stopped in another place to visit his favourite cousin. She is my age exactly.
Along with other local ladies, Cousin was washing clothes at a public fountain. She had a washer at home, but there was NOT enough water pressure to use it. AAARRRGGGHHHH: right out of the middle ages. I cannot bring myself to think about the state of her hands and back from the scrubbing....
For years afterwards, I uttered a silent prayer of thanksgiving as often as I could remember, when in the cellar of doom: "Lord thank you for giving me a washing machine and clothes to wash"
Re-framing this task was hugely helpful to me. ps: Cousin now has the washer, dryer, internet, and many other mod cons. Progress!

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for my 5 year old changing 3 times a day. He's the dirtiest kid ever! I'm going to pop in a dvd, hang out in my room and clean tonight. I made noodle soup for dinner so I wouldn't have to deal with kitchen drama interfering with my bedroom cleaning. I feel like I'm 15 again...whining that I have to clean my room haha

My kids will fight your kid for the title of dirtiest .
Anyway, if the "dirty" is mostly from messes at meals, feed him in his underwear. That's what I used to do with mine, and it helped.

My kids will fight your kid for the title of dirtiest KIDS? You ain't seen nothing 'till you see the clothes from a heavy equipment operator working in MUD in a Canadian spring/fall/winter. I used to wash my DH's clothes TWICE: the dirt was incredible! Some of these construction guys even take off their clothes in the CELLAR as they are too filthy to go upstairs.

Laundry is one of my biggest hate to do chores. This is the process:
1. Gather the laundry, maybe separate in whites and darks 2. Make sure I have enough quarters 3. Make sure I have enough detergent 4. Go upstairs and see if there is a washer empty and make sure said washer is actually working (usually one is broken) 5. Go back downstairs and get laundry 6. Put clothes in washer (use two washers if no one else is around, otherwise you get dirty looks from people who use one washer every day (I do this maybe once every two weeks). 7. Go downstairs and do stuff, set alarm clock to go get clothes, otherwise they could be taken out if I am not there when the washer shuts off, same with the dryer 8. Put clothes in dryer, maybe put another load in washer if it is still empty and no one is waiting 9. Go back downstairs and do stuff, set alarm to get second load and check for dry clothes 10. Get clothes out of dryer if dry, put second load in dryer 11. Go back downstairs, etc. etc. Set alarm again 12. Get clothes from dryer, wash off washer and dryer, clean lint catcher 13. Fold clothes and put away (maybe)
Yuck!!!

I used to like laundry - like dj says - you put it in dirty, it comes out clean. But, now I live in an apartment, I have to either do the laundry room routine that wendely describes so well (except that I don't go upstairs, I go outside, out the gate and in the other locked gate, because the laundry room is on the other side of the building) or take it all to a laundromat. I prefer the laundromat. They have change machines and vending machines for laundry supplies if I run out (I try not to because that's an expensive way to buy them) and I can get it all done at once. Also my clothes have come back from the laundry room with mysterious bleach stains and holes. I don't like taking up such a big chunk of time - sometimes it's hard to work the trip in. I usually go with one or more of my adult kids and we hang out (and they help carry stuff). I remember when they were little, it was not fun to go to the laundromat with them.
A long time ago, I lived in rural Puerto Rico. I had a laundry tub, a scrub board and a line. I didn't usually mind it. It was so beautiful there, I loved being outside in the sunshine and breeze. We didn't have very many clothes, probably not enough to get through a week, so I did laundry every 2 or 3 days. Maybe because I was young and crazy, but I thought it was cool at at the time.

When I was younger, we used to have a laundromat here in town that was also a bar. That was awesome.

Well, I got 3/4 of it done...all the way done! Washed, dried, and put away. DS stuff is folded in a laundry basket in his room...the place is trashed because his 2 friends were here (no school) so before I risk my life to put it away, a major toy pick up has to happen. I have a load in the wash, and a load that is finished in the dryer...but it has to wait a while. The kiddos I babysit will be going home in less than an hour so I have to wake them up, change their diapers, pack their bags, etc....tonight I'll finish the laundry, finish tackling my room...I have so much to do, it's getting me extremely freaked out.

Laudromat bars, yes I think we have one or two here. Not sure how neatly the clothes will be folded he he. We have video games and TV in some. I bring a book if I don't have someone to talk to.
