joyinVA, I'm very glad you are unharmed, and are unlikely to be anything worse than inconvenienced, thankfully.

Live webcam at Frying Pan tower, 34 miles off the coast of Cape Fear, North Carolina. I looked in the middle of the night, and of course it was too dark to see, but if you turn on the sound, WOW the storm is LOUD. I appreciate just listening. The screen looks like dark grey nothing, but it's just what it looks like at night. The sound is very active! The center of the storm is passing through here. And I could rewind it 10 hours or so to the prior evening and see the ocean roaring. explore.org/livecams/frying-pan/frying-pan-cam

Frying Pan tower is great webcam! here is link to Ocracoke Island webcam focused on Silver Lake which is on the sound (western) side and the village surrounds it. ocracokeharborinn.com/webcams/Dorian's center is very close to there right now, 8 am sept 6 edited to add it was no longer working when I checked at 10 am. eye going over Cape Hatteras which is at the south end of Hatteras Island and not far from Ocracoke Dorian is now moving at 14 miles per hour so heading north, hopefully will speed up even more and finish with the Outer Banks. predicted path will carry it over eastern Massachusetts and Nova Scotia

My DD and her roommate survived the storm. Their power flickered several times, but they never lost it. They had one tornado warning Thursday morning. She sent me two small video clips of the wind and rain. She said about 11pm last night the wind started "whistling". They are headed out today to view the damage and check out the area. I think the storm moved much slower than they anticipated!
Whew,.....they survived better than I did worrying about them!

I'm keeping up on Outer Banks info at this forum: www.obxconnection.com/outer-banks-forum/forum.aspx?FID=1you don't have to register to read the posts. one member is a ham radio operator and has been in touch with some folks in Ocracoke. very bad news from Ocracoke, tremendous flooding the highest one old timer still in his home there has ever seen. Hatteras high school gym lost its roof this morning. power poles on causeway to Manteo snapped not long ago cutting off power to south Nags Head and Manteo.

bye Dorian, don't come back! I hope Nova Scotia is ok as it passes. Virginia made out very well, since Dorian headed out to sea after bashing the Outer Banks. The national news media is focusing on Bahamas, and it is truly tragic and discouraging there. It may take years for Abaco and Grand Bahama islands to recover. The smaller towns get forgotten by the national news folks, partly because they are small and can be difficult to get to. Ocracoke Island will take a long time to recover and people living there will need lots of help and support. fortunately, around the OBX, (and its the same around a lot of the small towns on the Chesapeake Bay) local people start helping neighbors right away, and local groups are pretty efficient at getting practical assistance to people who need it. anyone interested in how facebook has been useful in a crisis like this can check out the facebook page for Oregon Inlet Idiots.
