The past couple days I've started working in the house again. Earlier in the year, I'd been doing pretty well, even having people over, etc. The social future lay ahead of me and I was really looking forward to it. Then when Covid hit, that all came to a stand-still. And I stopped clearing/cleaning, etc. What was the point? Then the angst of the election. But that is over, so time to move on, get back in the swing of things. Still not really leaving home other than for groceries and likely won't for months, but I guess it's just time to pull things back together again and stop the slide. Fortunately I've not been bringing things into the house much, and that's good. Most of what is littered about seems to be fluff - stuff dropped here and there and just not put away. So here goes. I have no idea what this thread will turn into, but i always do better when I record what I am doing. I'm not sure if I'll record via time or tasks... or even record things at all. Just so I get back into the swing of doing. Yesterday and today I"ve done some good floor clearing, dishes, laundry, lots miscellaneous. I tend to work ping-pong style, doing whatever I come upon first. I am trying to stay in the kitchen/living rooms so I'll see progress however. There are now 3 cats including 2 new kittens which I was lucky to obtain during covid. They are a joy, but they also make a mess. They are now playing in an area I cleared this morning. . Today is Monday, Nov. 9. Please feel free to join in in whatever way that helps you.

Almost an hour. Good work done. Many little tasks, but they all add up. Mostly picking up and tossing easy debris. Time for a cup of tea. edit: I've decided to work on a table top that would make a nice visual difference. And result in a nice free flat area.

Oh my goodness BetsyMarie - I am so excited to see your brand new posts! You pop into my head every once in a while because you were a regular on the WITing thread last year and I enjoyed hearing about your progress in your house, yard and with inviting over guests. Then Covid hit and you disappeared and I have to be honest that I thought maybe you got sick. What a relief to hear from you! Good luck with starting again - it sounds like you are already on a positive roll. And congrats on the new kitties!!! Take care!

No, I'm fine. No covid yet. Thank you for the concern. I often disappear for long periods of time. I wish I could be more consistent, but that's something I have not yet worked out. Today is Tues, Nov 10. I got good things done yesterday, but indoors and out. I spent about 1.5 hours outside clearing a section of the yard that needed attention. Filled both the trashcan and green can. Today I'd like to put in more time, but don't want to commit to anything specific, time nor task. But will get some things done. I like how I felt yesterday after accomplishing quite a bit. And staying home because of covid, there's not much else to do right now. What I do like about this round of cleaning house/ decluttering, there is no date I'm working towards. No hard, fast deadline. In the past there has always been something or other to work towards. So this time it seems more relaxed. Friendly like. I did just now take out a bag of house trash to top off the bin on the street - so there's a start. Maybe do more clearing around the table. Once I start, I can usually find things that I want to do. For outside work, it needs to warm up a bit more. Hope that happens today.

I cleared about half the tabletop, and picked up and swept the floor beneath. The cats did not recognize what I was doing, but watched intently. Tea time.

Thanks, OnTheMend . Time for bed right now, but I wanted to report that both yesterday and today I got more done. Lots of outdoors stuff. Today more than I thought I could do. By the end of the weekend, I hope to have totally cleared one area. I thought it would take forever, but it hasn't. Cats are actively playing right now. A joy to watch!

I am glad you're posting these. You sound upbeat and that helps the rest of us struggling! Thanks missjean I do feel pretty good, but alas I have not solved the 'being messy'. I've gotten rid of so much stuff over the years, and not brought in nearly as much, but it's still a struggle. If I don't have a real goal of some sort, I seem to just let things fall where they may. I don't seem to be bothered by 'stuff' on the floor unless I think someone might see it. Although I could still get rid of half of what I still possess, fortunately there is less stuff in general, so digging out when motivated is less onerous. While things are much better now, I've never reached the stage of being fully stream-lined and functional. Tomorrow is trash pick-up day. Yesterday I filled the triple green can. How nice that was done yesterday! And now it's on the street. This afternoon, I wheeled the trash can (standard size) into the back yard and filled it with 'stuff' from the area I'm reclaiming. I also have another filled trash can that will wait till there is room. I like having a backlog for weeks I don;'t get as much done. As in, most weeks, . I'm thinking another trash can filled and that area will be mostly cleared. Also today I got some watering done, some cooking prep, and even vacuumed part of a large rug. It's been a good day.

A week later... The green can is full and on the street. The regular trash is also full and on the street!! Yippee
I did a lot of good work in the yard today, and I'm tired and hungry. A steak and veg are cooking now. And I'm sipping on a soda. Sweet.
I also did a banking task this morning, and that's done too.

Feeling quite good this morning, in large part because of what I've gotten done the past few days outside. When I was a kid, when mom would expect me to do some chores, she would ask if I preferred to work inside or outside. I always preferred outside. Apparently still do. And so it will be today too. The inside needs lots, but I'm up enough on the dishes, and will head outside soon. As long as the weather holds - it all needs doing.

The past few days, I got a lot done in the back yard. It's been cool, but OK to work when the sun is up. Very pleasant. I worked in an area, clearing old weeds, and filling the green can, working on hoses, etc. That area had been waiting a long time. I want to clear a place in front for a mulch delivery, and then I can cover pathways, etc, to keep weeds from growing. Today I started by catching up on dishes, and some cooking. In the early afternoon I didn't have much energy, but just had to water some things... and that got me started working outside. I don't know how long, but I was able to begin clearing the area where I want the mulch dropped off. Tomorrow afternoon, I'll do more there. And early next week, I can make an appt for mulch delivery. It's going well outside. Inside not as good. But then that's how it is.
