Put my prospective seed mix planting days on calendar. Worked 60 minutes on bookcase. Removed, dusted, replaced, and got rid of a few more books, too. Washed dishes. Email/text a few friends I've neglected. Do back and arm exercises. Put away dry clothes. PUPA 5 minutes. Go for a walk. Work 5 minutes on boxes. Tomorrow: Work 60 minutes on table (and its papers).

Looked around my house in dismay - everything is such a mess and I don't know where to start and it seems what ever I do is immediately messed up aga so why do I even bother.... This happens to me all the time. Whenever i clear a surface, within a few days there is stuff on it again. Right now I can see a small dining table, a desk top, and the small table next to the couch. All of them were neat just a week or two ago, and now, all of them have 'stuff' on them. Again. I have no solutions to suggest... or I'd be doing it myself. I guess people immediately put things away as they go. I do feel your pain - having felt that pain many times myself. Hang in there.

It's been a very productive day in the yard. I think I might be done with working however.

Thanks BetsyMarie it really helps to know I'm not the only one. I have this belief that everyone else has all their housework done by 11.30am on Saturday morning and then can sit down with a coffee and admire their perfect homes and plan what interesting things they will do with all their spare time... Blah Cleaned up outside of microwave and surrounding area Cleaned up top of table Hung washing and started next load Cleaned roasting dish from yesterday and put away Clean cupboard doors in the kitchen Put bedding back in the van Hang next load of washing

razy I agree with BetsyMarie . I'm the only occupant in my apartment, so I guess it must be me who keeps messing up the place. It's taken my whole life to realize that I'm not very conscious of what I do with the things in my hands; my brain is busy with anything but what my body is doing. I just put down the whatever on a flat surface. What I am trying to learn to do is to be aware of what my hands are doing. Sometimes I speak aloud to remind myself where I'm going and what I'm about to do. Still working on this, so I don't have any results to report. Other reasons stuff ends up messing up my clean surfaces: - Just got home from errands, hands are full, need to drop the stuff. Tired. Done!
- In a rush. Gotta go! I'll take care of it later.
- Fixing up an area. Now there's a new mess from the leftovers.
- (History, not true anymore): Just too busy. Not enough time. Something's gotta give.
- Way too much stuff for current needs and space. Hard to keep everything stuffed in place.
- Mental fatigue/exhaustion greater than the ability or will to deal with minutiae.
- Anything's more interesting than dealing with this again.
Without getting down on yourself, it might be worthwhile to figure out if any of the above is a main reason this happens with you. Or just (sort of) accept the messes and also devote an hour a week or five minutes a day. You could just take care of it as a fact of life without any judgment at all. Sorry if this sounds pedantic. I'm coming from a place of mulling all this over, not having conquered and become a wise old expert. P.S. Dust still surprises me. I just dusted two weeks ago! What is going on?

Thanks goldenthreads. I don't live alone. Sometimes it feels like he is deliberately undoing what I have done. Sometimes he acts like a belligerent teenager being asked to clean his room. It's hard enough dealing with my inadequacies in the housekeeping department, sometimes it is just too much trying to deal with his as well. I resent how much time he spends on leisure activities and how little time I have because I have to pick up his slack and tidy up and clean up after him. He doesn't see any problem. I why would he. I can't stop doing it because then the house gets so messy and dirty and I literally get squeezed out as his stuff and mess take over. Anyways - thanks for the kind rant Cleaned cupboards Bedding and other stuff back in the van Blanket was and hung out Brought in some dry washing folded and away Lunch Plant some seedlings Pull some weeds Keep on Gs back to tidy his mess

oust - there's some days I wonder if it's worth it. Today, however, he has been quite productive. Lucky for him Planted bok choy and lettuce seedlings Pulled a big bucket of weeds Made a visible difference on our old broken concrete path Weeds to the compost Plant flower seedlings Check washing

Yes, it's complicated for so many reasons when other people are a/the major reason for the mess and frustration. Sorry you two have to deal with that. Went for a walk. Put away dry dishes. Put away dry clothes. Do back and arm exercises. Put away the stuff I transferred from LR to BR. Work 5 minutes on boxes. PUPA 5 minutes. Took care of this with the bookshelf project. Declutter at least 5 things. Ditto. Tomorrow: Work 60 minutes on table (and its papers). Shower and dress. Email/text a few friends I've neglected.
