I found this forum while freaking out about my situation. My room is very messy and dirty, has happened several places I lived, sometimes causing problems, sometimes never found out. I am currently away from where I live, visiting family and my landlord has advised an electrician is coming for yearly inspection and will need access to all our rooms. I messaged and said my room is messy and he may struggle to get to one of the sockets behind the bed as a result and could it be moved a week (I made excuses for mess, didn't mention its also dirty) but she's had trouble getting the electrician to come for a while now so it has to be this week and she'll let him know he can move things to get access. To be fair she was very nice but I'm worried the electrician may refuse or cause problems when he sees my room. I never fully unpacked after moving in in April (I have ADHD and was working days and studying nights do was constantly exhausted) so there are a lot of boxes to get around and I have rubbish bags I recently filled but forgot to take down before I left. I am so anxious at the though of someone seeing how I live and at the possibility of him sending pictures to my landlord if he can't get to a socket. I've seen some posts on here saying repairmen understand but I had a gas inspection engineer in another house I lived say he couldn't get to my radiator due to mess once (I wasn't there and wasn't aware he would need access to my room, my housemate told me (and she saw my room as a result). He didn't tell the landlord though...I just wish I was there to at least clear things a bit but I'm in another country. My landlord was nice and has been forewarned at least I suppose. I'm going to try clean as much as possible when I get home this weekend so if there are issues I'll have most of it sorted and can show my landlord improvement.

Welcome harri ! I'm sure that is horribly distressing to have happen when there is literally nothing that you can do. I'm not sure if you have a trusted friend that could go in and at least remove the rubbish that is already bagged up? Hopefully, your landlady will continue to be nice and see that you've made progress by the time you connect with her on your return. If you are otherwise a good tenant - pay on time, quiet, aren't doing anything against the rules like having unauthorized pets, guests or illegal activities - she hopefully will give you the time necessary to improve the situation. It would probably be helpful to have the plan in mind so that you are prepared if or when she says something. We have several work along threads to keep you company while you are cleaning, unpacking, etc. Sometimes it is nice to report your successes and get a pat on the back! We are a pretty good bunch here and MANY, MANY, MANY (DID I SAY MANY) of us have had heart stopping panic with an unexpected repair person, landlord or just a friend needing access. And, as far as I know - we have all survived! Take care - safe travels - enjoy your vacation! PC
