I was going to name this thread The great go through of 2023 but Needed the extra time left in 2022 to get going. Everyone Welcome!!💜 I'm looking forward to getting significant things done in '23 too. And am relishing that there are still 3 bonus weeks left in '22 to get a jump-start on the task. 2023, here I come! But first, setting that up with the end of '22. In the coming week or two, I have 2 'out of the house' tasks to get done - a charity run, and a run to get rid of dead 'electronics' (2 defunct vacuums, a dead fan, and a few smaller things.) Getting both tasks done will free up some good space. Hope things are going well for others. The holidays might slow some things down, but not totally. I'm still mostly staying away from 'crowds', and working on the house is a bonus to keep me busy. One of the things that reliably makes me happy is making progress. Too bad I don't do it more often, or consistently.

I did put the electronic trash into the car, and took it to the recycling center. It took so little time, and the guy there was so nice - so pleasant to see someone enjoying his job.
I took 2 upright vacuums, two worthless pond pumps, one defunct radio, one small speaker, one fossil video recorder, and one fan. Volume-wise, there was more than I thought when I got it into the car, so it's especially nice to have out of the house.
And still, 3 weeks remaining.

Saturday, getting ready for grandkids to come over, I spent some time working on pile of papers in sun room, cluttering up my sewing/ craft table. Found some old photos from parents home, that must have gotten humid, and were stuck together. Gently pulled apart while watching TV. Found plastic file box with old stuff from job I retired from ten months ago, tossed that. Have notebook with newspaper pages with recipes stuffed in it. I have started new binder for recipes, anything I think worth trying will go in there, otherwise it will be thrown out. Tossed old maps and travel brochures from road trip maybe five years ago. Little by little, things are improving. I have more fabric than I can ever use, have a couple contacts from buy nothing Facebook group who want fabric for use in teaching class to kids. Will send them message next week. Edited to add: last week on Wednesday, dh worked hard on garage. He has one side pristine and open, and parked his Miata convertible in there for the winter! Now I have to go thru boxes on the other side!

I just drew up a calendar for the rest of this year. With today, there are 20 days remaining in 2022. Lots of good time left, even working around holidays. Every year I give myself a present and I've decided the best thing I could possibly give myself is a cleaner, more orderly, efficient home. There will still be lots to do in '23, but I can put a lot in order in the main parts of the house in the next 3 weeks... just for me. So here we go...

What great progress joyinvirginia and BetsyMarie I spent my time cleaning up the yard, But I am eager to get a head start on work I need to get done in 2023. This is very exciting! Good on the yard work. For some reason, when I do yard work, I don't always give myself credit for doing what needs to be done. But it is important. It's the entire property that needs keeping up, not just inside. And in reality, the outside is what is seen most. This is indeed very exciting. Thanks for starting the thread def6 . It has hit a cord with me. 19 days remaining.

Def6, BetsyMarie, keep working toward your goals, a little or a lot at a time. Tuesday afternoon, wasnt too cold, so I worked in garage about an hour. Emptied a small box and a medium box. Put some old books in recycle box! Obvious trash and some broken things went in trash immediately. I have small pile of children's items for donation. I found a small box with magazines and books left over from May yard sale! We had to go to library, on way we stopped by Little Free Library at playground and I put all kids books in that. Then at library put old magazines and old recipe books in donation box, free for anyone to take. There is still a pile to go thru, now slightly smaller pile.

This am worked in sun room, spent 30 minutes going thru cardboard magazine holders I have miscellaneous recipes and booklets and papers in. Threw out some, sorted all the small recipe leaflets into one, some family/hometown booklets and etc into another. Freed up two holders! I'll keep them empty right now! Seriously love this thread and happy hearing about what others are doing!

I love how you keep chipping away at the garage joyinvirginia. I worked in my walk in closet last night. I had to find all the gift that I buy throughout the year to wrap up for Christmas. I bagged up a whole tall kitchen bag of donations and placed the bag in the car. I've got my eye on even more to go out. I threw away about a half of a bag. Sometimes decluttering goes really fast and seems effortless. Sometimes it is like getting back on that bike and riding it.

""I worked in my walk in closet last night."" My entire house is like a walk-in closet, Today is Thursday. 3 more days and there will be still two full weeks remaining before Jan. 1. As usual, the more I do, the more I see. But there are now areas that are looking quite acceptable, so in general, it's going well.

Friday afternoon dh and I worked together in garage for 30 minutes. Bad weather predicted for Dec 22 here, my goal is to get the second car, solara convertible, in the garage before then. We have a cover on it, but it will be better protected in garage. We figured out way to make room for it, even if not all boxes are out of there. It's like Tetris! But not as bad as it was few weeks ago.

Saturday dh and I worked hard for several hours in garage. We have two cars parked in the two car garage now! This involved more going thru boxes and deciding to trash a box of clothes that was once for donation, but had been invaded by nice at some point, and were too damaged/filthy to donate. Deciding to recycle some forty year old textbooks and twenty year old computer books, no one would want those. Old papers and slides (slides!) from job I left over a decade ago, trash! We did have quite a few boxes and things left in garage. DH played tetris and went up, stacked some light weight things on top of storage cabinet that he keeps some tools and miscellaneous in. Metal shelving unit between the cars has several boxes I still have to go thru. Two large pieces of furniture stacked on top of each other, I think after the holidays they will go on buy nothing Facebook group. More piles toward back of garage. Bicycles moved out of garage and into travel trailer where they are secure and out of weather. Anyway, still hours of work left. We DO have two cars out of the weather, and can still walk around garage, things are visible and accessible for whenever we want to do some more declutter! Merry Christmas to us! I'm always happy when our garage can be used for its intended purpose!

About a week to go before the start of 2023 . A good friend is moving out-of-state, and I've been helping, but have also been helping my own situation. He got a large roll-off trash thingie, and I've taken a few larger things there to be disposed of. But it also occurred to me that while I'm doing some heavy sorting here, I should just arrange a curb-side, free trash pick up for myself, so I only handle things once. So I did, for the coming Thursday. I'll be able to get rid of a few more larger things I'll never again use. I also removed the old glass shower doors that were more in the way, and will replace them with a nice, more functional shower curtain. These will go into my friend's dumpster. I didn't plan to be working in the garage, but it needs doing, and the time is right. Word of the week: Ruthless

Getting back here where I need to be... working and posting. We had a busy Christmas and I am very grateful. We are working in our yard today to clear up a bunch of debris that my husband has been temporarily been dumping in our yard. I'm very happy that he wants to clean it back up now. Ruthless is a great word BetsyMarie I know it must be great to be able to place big items into the available dumpster. Way to go joyinvirginia for all the strides in your garage.
