Yesterday was a rough work day Boss spoke rough & gruff, but did apologize & only about 10 minutes later. He has been much better the last month, thankfully, but it was one of those times that I almost quit on the spot, again! That’s how bad the situation was…
I was so stressed still even after his apology. And then just the stressful type job involved a couple especially stressful situations. Both of those i resolved good enough, I think. One of them was at the very end of the day & then right before I left my boss handed me a bonus check. Okay that was really good timing. Still I was teary eyed from my emotional roller coaster day at work & earlier with the boss & then all the bad thoughts about what all is going on in my life is, now… made myself to think of the good things! ended up feeling sick & a migraine about midnight. So, not even one thing got done last night other than med to dog and feeding her.

Okay a bit off topic for this thread, but here goes:

ohblondie Yeah, those UTIs are so bad. I hope both get past them real quick.
ohblondie I couldn’t remember if the catheter was something your dad has had for years or is kinda newish. I had lots of problems with UTIs with both my parents. My dad had a catheter for months & had several UTIs. Constant problems with the staff at the the ALF in keeping both him & the supplies clean. The Med Techs, nurses & only a couple of the caregivers knew how to care for him properly. When he either had leakage and/or suddenly passed out or got dizzy/light headed or fell is how we found out he had a UTI.
I will tell you that he had a very good Urologist. When he finally was able to have it removed, was when he started having problems with leakage & no UTI, and after checking for retention, & he was kind of on the line… the dr decided to let us do a trial run at the ALF. Removed & kept it out for can’t remember how many hours. Had him checked for retention at the end of it & showed he was full. Ordered for it to be removed & we happened to have the greatest nurse for a short time period at the ALF. Instead of just putting it back in, she had him go try & stand like a man & he did!!! Completely emptied! So no longer had to have a catheter after that!!
Hope that wasn’t TMI !!!!
And now more info re: my Mom who had bad UTI the end of November last year. She about passed out so was sent to the ER. Almost didn’t make it. She had to have a catheter put in due to retention near the end of that hospitalization & the UTI had been cleared at some point during the hospital stay. So she had to go to a Nursing Home after that for Rehab because she couldn’t walk with her walker after that hospitalization. (They only did PT a couple times & I had noticed that her legs were being kept way too long in an awkward position in the bed. But you know, in the hospital different caregivers & altho tried to keep up & have then reposition her but with varying & light staff & each time hard to get someone to come in & we were fighting a losing battle with that). Anyway, she got UTI again at the nursing home. Terrible caregivers & short staffed. Got her out of there a little earlier & chose not to put her at the ALF again. Great decision since Covid had just made a reappearance there). She has never been able to even stand up since that last hospital stay.
So what I’m getting to,

jendela & anyone else who maybe this info might help… we put her in a small group care home (assisted living, so LTC insurance pays some) OWNED by a NURSE. The nurse has staff there & paid careful attention to my Mom. Her experience is that retention & UTI issues can be resolved but require good care & more frequent bathroom runs and/or diaper changes. And good cleaning. So, once she was able to get the catheter out pretty quickly. Said they cause a lot of UTIs. Saw that Mom was able to go in diaper & Could tell by there weight that she was not retaining & wasn’t going like constantly but on moms own schedule which wasn’t very frequently but was fine for my mom.
And she finally found out after still having back to back UTIs she required even more thorough cleaning than most ladies. Thankfully, & knock wood, I’m almost afraid to write it… no more of them for at least 6 months.
Mom had been getting them constantly at the ALF & her symptoms were NOT the typical ones either,

We were constantly having to insist on urine samples & having to be the ones who followed up because they all thought and the PA, too, that there wasn’t a UTI, but always when we requested there was one. (Constant nurse & staff changes at the ALF is why we had to keep going thru this level of watching & demanding. Thankful for the cameras we had in parents room). Anyway, my Moms symptoms were that her mind/dementia would be much worse & her coordination/balance would be worse. (No fever, no blood, no pain, no smell - which one or all of those are the typical signs/symptoms of UTIs. )
All of that is to say that I understand what you are going thru & so sorry you are having to go thru this —my heart goes out to both
