Hello all I found this forum when I was googling emergency cleaning help and found so much that was useful. Long story short I've always been awful at letting my house get super cluttered and a state. Now I've had a warning and the landlord is thinking of selling. I need to clear everything super quick and she's sooooo picky. I am a single mum with 2 kids and I can't afford a new place so proper panicking. I have until Sept 14th but I go back to work Monday (I am a teacher in the UK). Can I do this ? ?

Hello jolaw246 and Welcome! Yes you can do this! One way is to get all the trash out and recycling and just start from there. Then you will see your way to do more. Make yourself a cup of tea and have a break too!

Welcome jolaw! You can do whatever you need to do. Make a list of what is needed to make your home function better for your. It's ok to ask for help from friends or family, IF they will be helpful. Or hire help, you don't have to do everything by yourself.

Homes have been completely transformed in less time. However, and if you can afford it (at least just this once), why not hire some help to clear the place while you're working? If not... Just remember: even the tiniest act of clearing - even picking up a paper - is better than spending those same few seconds panicking. ; ) The best of luck! 🌺

Hi jolaw! You have a whole weekend ahead, you can get a good chunk done over the next few days. If you think it would help, join one of the working threads (Weekday/Weekend workalong, Working in threes, or there might be some others going on now) and post as you accomplish things. I agree with first going around and getting all garbage and recycling out, that will show you what's left to do.
Good luck!
Diane

I have sorted 10 bags of trash and it's hardly made a dent in the place. My oldest son had a massive go at me about how long I've had to do this etc and I'm terrified we will lose this house and he will blame me. I am trying to keep moving and doing but I often sit down as feel so overwhelmed 😭😭😭😭😭

Exactly. :) It's the one thing that has helped me, in all sorts of situations. No matter how infinitesimally minuscule an improvement is, it IS an improvement.

My oldest son had a massive go at me about how long I've had to do this etc and I'm terrified we will lose this house and he will blame me. I will be blunt: your son is being a brat. Don't let him get away with it and don't let his remarks deter you. Keep going. No matter how how old he is, or how bratty - give him tasks to do and put him to work as well. If he's going to think he can sit there and criticize you, let him know that's unacceptable. You don't have to let him take you on a guilt trip. I'm sure he's contributed to the mess, so he can contribute to cleaning it up. Be strong! You're in charge, not your son. You can do this!

Jolaw, get your son to dispose of the trash! He can take it to dumpster or garbage bin or the dump! You can do this!
