I did the dailies and some laundry. Made my own second Thanksgiving dinner with the turkey breast I cooked last week and trimmings I had bought. Cleaned up the kitchen. Fourteen years ago today, my hubby died at home on hospice. So I was running all day ---to the funeral home, to the florist, back to the funeral home to dress him . And the next day was Thanksgiving. The kids and I had dinner here at home. I cooked it. My DS and I were texting about it last night. cando---Get better soon. My best to all. catcats

Hugs to catcats and all of us who have anniversaries we'd rather forget... and healing thoughts to those with a dose of the lurgy. Its the last weekend of November, so I'm trying to use the symbolism to guide the day, though so far it hasn't exactly turned out as planned..❗

Good morning everyone! It's snowing! Very lightly, but it's supposed to keep going for a good part of the day so there might be a tiny bit of accumulation.

Note to self (again🙄) Do not multitask when defrosting the blooody freezer😢😂🤦🙄 Long story short-- there is a load of loose floor coverings take up and dry out where the water has crept out🙄🤦🤦🤦. Ive had to tell work i won't be showing up for the afternoon shift. ⚫So area under freezer dried and cleaned, ⚫Food back in the freezer just before it started drizzling (choose a freezing morning to do the deed) ~~short break for a very late breakfast before facing the kitchen again. 🙈 Next ▶ Some more washing up and dry a bit more of the floor ▶Use the "opportunity" to take another look at what to put on the shelving rack next to the freezer ((In theory i have Monday and Tuesday booked off so I'm trying to just shrug off this morning's mess-up ... It did make me think of the "For want of a Horseshoe Nail" proverb... There's always a chain of events and of wonky decision making that leads further down the trail of chaos.... (and somehow the vital "message" that might win the battle is lost,, though i wouldn't mind just a draw ......)

Oh decade, that sounds awful. I use "perfect storm", when you look back at something and see all the actions (or more likely, inactions) that led to a bad outcome. I'm glad you're off the next two days.

Diane, no, our decorations are modest compared to most people around here. I use a lot of natural decor, wreaths, garlands, swags that I would put together from the bounty here in our yard. From working in a floral/plant shop right out of high school I learned how to make lots of things including bows. There would be green wreaths with red bows in every window and evergreens, pine cones and berry arrangements on brick stairs. A few years I covered all the bushes with colored lights and had deer lit with white lights grazing under the cherry trees. As I age I have cut way back. Now all the natural things have been replaced by artificial greenery with tiny white lights that I embellish with whatever is available. DD1 found her North Pole people at a cool place online and has added to her collection over the years.
Most people do elaborate displays that are set up by professionals. They are gorgeous and those are the houses that people come by to see. I love big lights crusted all over everything. It makes me feel like a little kid, oohing and ahhing and saying look at this, look at that. Some people have beautiful almost life size creches as well as lots of lights. Blow-ups have been getting popular around here as the older people move out and younger people with kids move in. Most everyone decorates their roadside mailboxes too. One lady goes old school with a Flexible Flyer sled and beat-up old-timey ice skates hanging from the top of the sled tied to the mailbox with glittery red and gold ribbons. My mailbox will be like the fences ~ greens, pine cones, berries, red bows. I have pine cones from years ago that I sprayed gold or silver and sprinkled with glitter. Looks like little snow diamonds sparkling when the sun hits them.
I don't look forward to the work and try to schedule things when the weather isn't bitter cold. DD1 gets so excited and keeps telling me what a great job I am doing even when things are getting frustrating. After a section is done I am so happy that she pushed me along. When she is doing her stuff I can hear her talking to herself saying, we're doing it, hello Mr. Snowman, it's good to see you out again, look how beautiful we are making things for Baby Jesus. Her precious, beautiful spirit keeps me going!! If we get some snow it makes everything look so picture perfect!

Bedtime, the floor is dry, though some edging strips will need to be recut from the foam tiles i have. I found a few dishes that never get used when I'm cooking, a "normal" person would have been rid of them long ago, I'm going to sleep on the decision, 80% sure they will go, Hopefully more progress on making the kitchen more usable tomorrow

catcats (((hugs))) cando I hope you get to feeling better! notanotherdecade I am sorry to hear about the freezer. It sounds like you are making good progress on useable kitchen though! danny15 Your daughter sounds like a sweet and caring soul! Diane I hope the weather does not get too bad there. We have been getting more cold and rain/icy. When I was young we used to go sledding in negative degree F weather and think nothing of it. I can remember sledding in -20 degree F weather even before the wind chill factor. Now it is 30 to 40 F degree weather and I am grumbling that I need to move to Florida. Also that I need (NEED) that space heater for my garage if I am going to get anything done in the garage at all. I keep running out and grabbing something and then running back in as fast as i can. Thank goodness the kitties are staying in. One stuck his nose toward the door and had huge eyes and then went back to his fluffy bed and snuggled in. mylittlescholar that is a huge list and you are getting an amazing amount done! It is almost end of the holiday break here and I have gotten things done but not the miracle I had hoped. I do feel better though. Though I still have PTSD from work. I found out another two friends have been laid off. Fortunately for one of them she is retirement age.

I hope everyone is happy with their day today, despite freezer leaks and folks still not feeling well.
I spent another day on Christmas cards and Christmas movies! It felt nice to not worry about other things but tomorrow I will have to go back to reality.
Good night everyone, see you in the weekday thread!

notanotherdecade---I hope your floor dries out completely very soon so that it stops being such a hassle for you. danny15---Your decorations sound lovely and I love what your sweet DD is doing with her collection. cando---I sure hope you feel better soon, my friend. Not a good time to be sick. I guess it never is. Diane---You have snow !!! Glad your water barrel got emptied. I hope the snow does not make it too hard for you to get your groceries, etc. MLS--You had a good Thanksgiving---great !! I have been meaning to tell you---Back in 2019, when I was visiting my DD, who then lived in GA, you and I were hoping to get together, but I was unable to do that, after all. I have so often regretted losing that opportunity to meet you !! I went to Mass this morning and after that, except for taking the recycling to the curb and doing the dailies, I just goofed off. Carolyn and I talked in the car for almost 2 hours after getting back from church. She had a lot on her mind. After that, I made myself dinner and then just cat-cuddled and enjoyed doing almost nothing. That could get to be a habit !! My best to All, and also my appreciation for the nice thoughts from peeps about my hubby loss. catcats
