Danny, that is clever to have days to check for leaks, that's being proactive. I wish I could maintain some kind of weekly schedule for doing particular things, ~~~~~~~~ Years ago (when I was a well-functioning person) I had many lists ~ daily, bi-weekly, weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, bi-yearly, yearly, seasonally, prep lists for holidays, for entertaining, for many volunteer activities, etc. I kept excellent records for medical and educational stuff (DD1's needs required meticulous notes as some of her treatments were experimental). I kept different calendars for each family member as well as a pull-it-all-together calendar. Back then it was all by hand, on paper. I loved the detailed perfection of it all. There was a lot of use of color and stickers.
As I was getting better with word processing on the computer I transferred my lists to that. I think the reason those lists aren't well followed now is that I don't have any hard and fast deadlines for the most part. It would be helpful to try and get back to those with more discipline.
Most important task today is to get a lot of info to my grandson about his great-grandfather (my dad) lovingly referred to as Grandpa the Great. He was a very accomplished man, highly connected in many areas. DGS is writing an essay for an Ivy league college that reached out to him for early admission. I just burst with pride when I think of my father and his great-grandson who is so very much like him. At my dad's funeral, DGS, who was 3 years old, was sitting on my lap. He said loudly, "Gammie, we have to wake up Grandpa-the-Great, he is missing his big party."

Danny, I've always tried paper lists, and the only ones I can stick to are important things for that day. Anything else reminding me to do things at certain intervals just don't work for me. I suppose if I only put on the list what I was sure I could do it would be different, but I always tried to keep track of everything and there's no way I can do everything, so I would have to rewrite lists over and over again, it was too much to keep track of. Since I put things on the computer I have a much better chance of keeping track of things. I don't do as many things in a day as I would like, but at least I keep everything corralled in one spot and as long as I make myself look at the lists every day I don't forget urgent things. It's all the extra things I SHOULD do that get put off.
No list system works unless I actually DO the things on the lists!
I fed the dog and sat with her for a while, reading.
I will do a few more things before lunch.

I find I am relying more and more on the calendar on my phone and those electronic reminders (and alarms) I still like paper lists for the grocery store and other shopping excursions.
so - my big news - Last night I hit "submit" for my retirement application. And just now I uploaded two necessary and required documents. Last night I never received an electronic notification that my application was received. But this morning when I go online I see my service case is opened. And still no acknowledgement of the two documents I uploaded and if anything else is required. I need to give 15 days notice so I really need to know this was accepted and that my countdown has begun.

Wow ohblondie, that IS big news! Do you mean you have to give 15 days notice before your actual retirement date? Did you give them an actual retirement date or do you have to wait until they confirm having the documentation?
I'm now going to do a little research on my Word organization questions, and then I'm going to take another short reading break with the dog.

The last thing I'll do before dinner is look up tax forms and see if I can print any yet.

I found the federal tax form is available already (but not my state form) so I printed it and went through every line to see if I needed any other forms. I also looked up some of the instructions to remind myself which lines I can ignore. My taxes will be so simple this year, I should have no trouble getting them done as soon as I receive all the statements I need.
I'm happy with my progress today, now I will stop for dinner and a tv break.
See you all tomorrow!

Only two days into the New Year and keeping up with house maintenance and project work is not coming along.
Today I spent a lot of time getting info for DGS. He was very excited! I went to the grocery store, unplanned, but really needed (wanted) Vidalia onions. I eat them raw with so many things, love them! A relative gave us a HUGE chunk of bone-in rib eye leftover from their New Year's feast. I cut that up and was a bit grossed out by it. I kind of don't want it but I also want to use all our food and stop wasting so much. I can freeze some of the meat and make several meals out of it.
Keeping an eye on the weather ~ we may get snow this weekend so I planned what needs to be done before then ~
DD1 and I need to get her North Pole characters and decorations dismantled and boxed away all the decor around the front entrance and lamp posts need to come down and boxed take apart live green arrangements and save pine cones, bows, log containers, etc. for next year, put away live greens need to be recycled (or maybe set under pine trees for bedding, hidey places for wildlife) I will probably leave up garlands and wreaths around fences and gates, they will look pretty in the snow probably leave big colored lights around deck rails, will be pretty in snow for us to enjoy (birds and squirrels have adjusted to eating around them) take out batteries or at least turn off timers for lights on garlands and wreaths move (maybe take to library) boxes of books waiting for donation to other side of garage bring staging table from garage into family room get water jugs filled, take them down to a level where they will not freeze by doing a transfer to smaller jugs set water jugs up off cold garage floor to prevent freezing move any other small stuff so I can get truck into one side of garage maybe take Christmas decor boxes to storage unit bring trash cans and recycling containers into storage side of garage run all bags of donations on staging table to church
Won't be the end of the world (as DD1 likes to say) if not everything gets done. All the Christmas decorations will look pretty in the snow. But then it will run into the second week of January and there is a lot of other stuff to attend to. Inside Christmas stuff can stay up. My birthday, DD1's birthday and DD2's birthday are all this month and we always enjoyed having the decorations still up for those celebrations.

Our tradition is Christmas decorations down on the 6th January as that is the twelfth night after Christmas. So we'll be taking ours down on Saturday, and then I can start to get rid of all the Christmas stuff all over the spare room bed and get that room back to being sorted. Ohblondie I'm so excited for you! Congratulations, let us know how everything goes with it! Today I'm quite annoyed - I had ordered those new drawers and they were due to be delivered between 7.30 am and 9pm today. Needless to say nothing had arrived. My plan was to get them up, installed, things transferred over to them, and then with the new found space, get all my laundry that is sitting in bags put away, and then work some more on getting the bedroom set to rights. Well, that rather scuppered my plans. If they're not here by brunch tomorrow, I will be bringing out my best complaining! In the service of getting the bedroom sorted, I PUPAed a few things last night that had been lying around from when I had covid last. I had bought a bunch of artificial blue pampas grass and a big gold floor vase for them to go in (I have always loved pampas grass from childhood when we had it in our garden and I love that it's suddenly very trendy again!), but apparently assembly was required for the pampas grass! It entirely befuddled me but boyfriend managed to get them on the stalks. We got the closet area alcove measured and I ordered the tension rod and curtains (and managed to resist buying new living room curtains or bedroom curtains at the same time! The curtains in both of those rooms are from my old apartment where I had to get them custom made due to odd sizes and I'm determined to get my money's worth out of them). The main thing to sort now is to build the new office nook bookcases, so I can get the old ones up to the bedroom, filled and decorated for the strange little nook behind the stairs that has just been empty wasted space since I managed to clear all my boxed clothes out of there. I'm hoping that will free up some surface space for me, so fingers crossed! Done: Quick PUPAs in bedroom and living room Achieve dining table zero Achieve coffee table zero Went through bag of bedroom decor and got it set up Got measuring done for bedroom alcove curtains Meal planned and ordered groceries Ordered groceries for mum My "go to sleep" alarm to try and coax me back into being less nocturnal for work on Thursday has just gone off, so that's me done! Tomorrow is the last day of vacation before back to work (at least it's a short week with only two days!), so usual to dos of setting out clothes, prepping lunch, and having a long relaxing bath and facemask to try and hold on to the last of my fun!
