Hi all. This past year I found using mini challenges a great way to get a variety of things done, be it taking out the trash before pick up, but especially for jobs that I was tending to put off, like digging the ladder out from the mud. As a Mistress of Procrastination, I found working on just one specific thing, often with a shorter, defined time limit, extremely helpful to get the task completed. The closer you are to a reaching a goal, the harder you work to achieve it. Heading into the new year, I want to continue doing these on occasion. There are no rules for each challenge - they are defined one by one, based on the task, or some sort of time guideline, or whatever creative parameter is appealing. Please feel free to join in with whatever mini challenge you might find helpful.

My first mini challenge of the year is to clear the small dining table, and to keep it that way for the rest of the week. It was recently cleared, but miscellaneous stuff just got put on it again... And again, and again. edit: I cleared all except what is supposed to stay there. Keeping it clear for a few more days will not be easy. I can use it since that is its purpose, but must clear it in a timely manner. An empty surface is an open invitation.

Thanks for the invitation! I will clear my end table. I have some very pretty, functional things on it, but now there are papers and books on top.

Thank you BetsyMarie for starting the New Year of 2024 off right with mini challenges. I have moved mountains in my cleaning and decluttering "career"... by challenging myself to start for just 5 minutes.

def6 "Back when", I also started with 5 minutes. That I could do, more was simply overwhelming to consider back then. What I really like about these mini challenges is they generally are well defined, and when they are done in a timely manner, they are done. I also find variety makes the work more interesting even when I'm doing lots more 'in the background'. My next mini challenge is to pack up one box of donations, and take it to the car where it can stay till there are more full boxes for a drop-off. In mid December, I filled the back of the car with IIRC, 13 boxes. But I seem to be dragging my feet on this next round. The time goal is by the end of today.
