I want to challenge myself to getting some shelf decluttering, dusting and organizing. Right now I am away from home, but will return on Sunday. I just wanted to write this down for me to remember. The sink is clean and the dishes are washed and this is a worthy task on its own. But I want to add to the basics slowly.
It seems to me that a shelf a day is quite an achievable goal. At some point I have the address the elephant in the room, which is to slowly declutter the problematic areas. Also, the shelves are a good choice to start, since their state impacts the kitchen, the bedroom, the bathroom, etc.
How many shelves do I have in the house? And from which room to start? I thought about it and going to start with the bathroom. I need a place to start where the change can be instantly seen. I change the face and hand towel each day, so this will instantly become a reward to me, to have the towels and the cleaning items sorted out, decluttered and organized.
If any of my fellow members and fighters would like to join, you are more than welcome!

Starting the One Shelf/Drawer A Day, today. I started with a cupboard shelf, the one I use to store our glasses and cups. A dozen of mismatched items in. As I go I will also declutter and clean. So, for the shelf today, I also am cleaning the inside of the cupboard, the items themselves and the outside of the cupboard. It takes up more time, for sure, but I thought that at the end of this challenge I will also have the extra bonus of having all the cabinets, cupboards, vanities, etc, shiny too, which is more than I bargained for. Will update as soon as I finish my 1st one.

March 4th Finished the first 2 shelves. These are holding cups we use for our hot drinks, -tea and coffee cups-, as well as water and wine glasses. I realized that without the excess mismatched cups and glasses that had remained from sets now long gone (either mine or my mother's "heirlooms"), the shelves are looking fabulous. They used to be such an eye sore to me every time I opened the cupboard to get a cup for my morning coffee. Well, not anymore! I also got rid of some glass jars I was keeping, by asking questions like : a)do I really love this? b)have I used it in the year that passed? c)does it spark joy? (quote from Marie Kondo) d)is this absolutely necessary? e)can I replace it any day of the week? So, off they went (42 items, bigger and smaller, most of them glass ones). I also got rid of like 50 paper straws, that I never use and even if I did, such a number is way more that needed. Was I tempted to keep any of the items that I first set aside to discard? Yes, I kept two small glass glasses, which are pleasing to me, but have no idea what to use them for (which shows that they should have been discarded also, but for now I think I made progress, so trying not to have a black or white thinking). If I want to be able to maintain, tasks such as cleaning a cupboard and its contents cannot be made more difficult, but more easy. I am not a youngster anymore, I need to think about the future years/decades and how my body can handle situations. Thus, I need to take care of my body, making tasks for it easier, and my future and everyday life lighter, instead of heavier. I am also going to reduce the numbers of glasses, cups, dishes, plates, bowls, cutlery and dinnerware to 6 from each category. I no longer have the large dinners with more than 10 people I used to have when younger, so those are what we need, not dozens from each category. This will also help minimize the dirty items in the sink, make the shelves in cabinets and cupboards tidier and easier to maintain in a pristine condition. Tomorrow I will continue by decluttering, cleaning and tidying the kitchen towels' shelf.

Great job! Nael_C I love that feeling of looking at an organized shelf or drawer! During March, I have a plan to sort out most of my kitchen along with a few other areas for dishes because 1) we have foodie company coming in April and they will be into everything and 2) we recently purchased a new buffet and I want to do a dish shift among four areas that are holding things. I'm hoping that I can remove roughly 30% of things for donation. etc. I may tag along on your "shelf a day" plan with a related "spot a day" PC

Today I decluttered, washed and dried another drawer in the kitchen, it's the one we hold the forks, spoons, knives and other useful kitchen cutlery. I also washed and degreased the outside of the drawer, the front of it that is. I set aside forks, spoons, knives that were over the number that I am going to hold for use, which is 6 (I read somewhere that 4 is the number a member kept, but I thought that for me it's better to keep 6 for now). The rest I am going to keep somewhere else, to be able to use if a situation arises.

Two more kitchen shelves finished today. Moved some of the items that didn't belong to another shelf, washed all the inside sides, dried them out and then put everything back in, taking care to rearrange. Last thing I did was to clean the glass door all over, wooden sides included. Total number of shelves:5

2 more kitchen shelves finished today. I admit those were chosen exactly because they were of the "easy ones" category, but as I had to also work in another room for decluttering, I had less time to devote in my challenge. Nevertheless, I am now down to Total number of shelves:7

You are doing so great Nael_C on this shelf project! I have stalled a bit on mine because I have dug (excavated) to the innermost and then didn't know what to do with all the stuff. I'm trying to get myself situated now.

def6, thank you! I think I'm slow as a snail, . I don't do one each day, but in my mind I keep repeating that it is better than not doing any shelf at all. Your excavating is in fact inspiring to me! xoxo

Another shelf decluttered, washed and dried. I also did the outside (front) and washed the pots and pans I put in it. A kitchen shelf. I think there are like 6 remaining in the kitchen alone, but I do it while I can and try not to give it an urgency feeling as this could make me feel anxious.

More like a shelf a week I'd say, ha ha. But, it is what it is. Two more shelves finished, dusted, decluttered and tidied. Those belong to the living room and are top of glass shelves. They hold some of my beloved plants. Total Shelves/Drawers: 18
