I'm looking forward to communicating with others who understand how hard it is to get rid of things. I come from a long line of pack rats. I have made a good dent in my "too many" possessions in the last few weeks. I chart my progress by how many trips I make to donate to Goodwill. I attribute part of my recent success to finding a good medication balance for my ADD. It helps me see things a little more clearly. Is there a thread discussing ADD and the link to hoarding behavior?

Greetings & Welcome to You, Tryin -CONGRATS on what you have been getting accomplished, & CONGRATS on joining here to find support. You WILL find support. I don't know about any ADD-Hoarding links here, but you can google them & find some info. Just put in: ADD Hoarding or ADHD Hoarding or OCPD Hoarding Those should get you some good returns. I come from hoarders too. Mother is OCPD, ADHD, & depression, while Father was OCPD & then depression in later years. Neither accept it that they are, or 'were' in Father's case. Soooo I started out as a perfectionist to keep myself from becoming like them. And then after numerous losses in my 30's, I went way down that path tooooo, & am now climbing out. The difference is I am open & LOUD about the whole thing in/with my family. I'm not one for the secret-secret hush-hush. I tell it like it is, & throw light on ALL of us, heh. Sometimes I am not very popular in the family, if you can imagine. I also have the ADD going on, & have used meds for it, but never could really find a best one for me. Prior to that, I used & was helped by every anti-depressant imaginable over the years. One would be working great for a long time, then it would fizzle out & I would go to the next one. Now I am just taking Lamictal, a mood stabilizer, & I am doing really good with only that so far. Good luck with finding the info, & message me if you would like. Just know you are among friends here, & many many of us know what you are going through & what your challenges are. Every base/difficulty is covered here by someone or other. Just put it out there like you did here & ask for whatever help you need. Best to you, Blue

Welcome, Tryin !
Congratulations on getting rid of things!
Several people here have ADD/ADHD, but I don't believe there is a specific thread that discusses it. You could start one, if you would like. I'm sure you'd get lots of good ideas for how to deal with the issue from those who go through the same things.
My problem is more just over 40 brain syndrome.
It's great to have you here.

Hi, Tryin, welcome I have ADHD, probably OCPD too (just need to see if doctor agrees), suffering from stress induced depression, and the recent realisation that my clutter is not just untidy but squalor. I'm frequently called a pack-rat by my family, a hoarder, a collector gone too far. I'm in the middle of a reclaim of my home, to something a little more "normal" and clear, for the good of my health and sanity. Here you will find the most helpful and encouraging people who will assist you on the road to accepting your situation and helping you to work towards a cleaner, clearer home. No disposal is considered too little or too large. Your pace, your success, your home

Welcome, Tryin. So glad that you found us and posted. I think that many of us deal with ADD and other issues that make it harder to clean up. But with the help of friends here, you will be able to make great progress!

Hi Tryin, I searched the site for ADD and Hoarding, but there were no threads that were really related. It might be a great idea to post your own thread about it!
Welcome!

hi tryin, and welcome! i'm in your tribe; hoarder, ocd, and a.d.d. so if you post an a.d.d. thread in byways i'd join. need help and support with that too. may i ask what balancing meds you are taking for the add that are helping with your mental clarity and decision making? congtatulations on making a lot of donations of your extra stuff! this is wonderful news! i have a hard time letting stuff go. my progress has been slow and miniscule. no truckloads or anything like that. just a steady box or two per week out. and a lot of encouragement from this group. those ladies in chat kick your butt! which means i need to go there more! maybe see you there or on listzilla. i look forward to working with you. it's nice to find someone else who knows what this particular d.n.a. cocktail is like! the a.d.d can really interfere with my focus, but these boards are great because there are a lot of "short attention span" things to do, and i think that is why i am finally making some progress after several years of spinning my wheels.

Welcome, Tryin! I am more messy and really bad at cleaning than a hoarder, but we all work together here and it is the best place you could ever hope to find! Good luck to you!
