Hello! It's just me, MessyGirl. I'm new here. I am, and have been for awhile (too long), living in complete squalor.
I truly do not know what is more chaotic - my home, personal life, or my mind?! But, I am here in hopes of getting a grip, and regaining control over all aspects of my life! With the support of others, like some of you. Others who 'know' what i'm going through, or atleast to a certain extent.
I am engaged to a man who is as messy (frankly, much MORE messy) than myself. We have lived together close to 10 years now. I am 28, no children (someday, once I get my life in order, I HOPE to have children - just not until then!). I do have pets though, and they contribute to the "messy" situation quite a bit.
I hope to talk to and get to know some of you. And, more than anything, I hope to get the chaos in my life under control - in all aspects!
Talk soon!

Hi MessyGirl and welcome to the group.
I'm new here too and found that speaking out and being honest with myself and my family has helped me be more positive about changing how we live here. I hope you find being a member helps you create order from chaos.
I can agree with your saying that pets contribute to the problem, I keep telling our rats to keep bedding inside the cage and the Malamutes to shed their coats only outside, but they aren't listening!
Look forward to getting to know you,
DiamondGal.

Hi! I found SS about a year ago. It really helped me then, and I'm hoping this new board will do the same for both of us. I am 28 also, and a single mom of an 8 yo (very active) boy. I've struggled w/my mess pretty much since the day I moved out on my own 9 years ago. You are not alone! Good luck to you.

You might (and this is just a suggestion, no pressure, not even a little) consider getting full testing by a licensed mental health care professional, as untreated ADHD and bipolar disorder are entirely too common among us Squalorees...
BTW, welcome and have a seat *brushes crud off of chair*!

You might (and this is just a suggestion, no pressure, not even a little) consider getting full testing by a licensed mental health care professional, as untreated ADHD and bipolar disorder are entirely too common among us Squalorees... To any newcomer reading this: It's a perfectly fine idea for ALL people (clean OR messy) to get a mental health check-up and a physical health check-up. I just didn't want you to feel obligated. Just wanted to clarify that not all of us have mental issues. Some of us are just habitually messy. Some of us never formed patterns of cleaning. Some of us didn't care abou the mess. Some of us just hate cleaning. Some of us are just overwhelmed by the mess. Others do have mental health issues, or ADD, or undiagosed physical ailments. They were greatly helped by finding a doctor. Others had an unusual life circumstance happen, that caused a lot of squalor to occur at once, and then, the squalor stayed. Each of us is different. I posted something here ... that explains more reasons why we have squalor: takeonestepatatime.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=375Each of us is different. You need to find what works for you. -
