Well sure, you've all been here working out the problems of the old site and this new one and I've been up in my attic tossing 20 years of stuff!! (Let me report some minor success.) Oh my, I'm sure your butterflies have all settled somewhat, but what a shock I had on checking in after a two week or more absence. I guess some other folks will be rolling in eventually. I'm still catching up on what has been happening - I will be so very sad if all the postings from SS will be lost. Maybe that has been resolved somehow or else I will be spending a lot of time copying stuff onto my computer. Well, it is really nice to see some familiar faces here. I can't believe I missed all this. So.... hi everybody! And thanks to Missy!

I sure wish here wouold be an agreement reached about archiving the old threads. It would truly be a shame to lose them all.

Anyone know if there is a way or if there is an online site to archive the entire contents of the old forum?
or if the old forum could be kept online and accessible for about three months to allow for reading and saving?
what would it take? $$$? time?

I've seen these "slash and burn" endings at so many web sites. I've never understood why the people didn't just turn the keys over to the next manager instead of making the board start over. It's quite understandable that a person would be tired, burned out or whatever but the technology for transferring a message board is rather advanced. It's not needed to kill it to start a new one with the same old people.
Having said that, I'm very glad if Pigpen found a better step forward and wish her all the very best luck in the world. She did a tremendous service for thousands of people.

I'm so clueless about computer stuff, I wouldn't even make a guess. I could adjust to the new forum, but losing all that history....it just ...mmm.. stinks. I am indebted to PigPen for whatever progress I have made and then some. Many of the words and stories from SS play in my head as I dehoard my house. Of course, being who I am, I am going to save every shred I can from the old site. I am a little worried about others who have disappeared from SS for a while (as I have often done) and return after June 30. I would have had a total meltdown if I hadn't had the opportunity to save my postings. Some of them are important to me -- mostly the replies, of course, which buoyed me during some rough patches and offered acceptance, love, understanding, all that and sooo much more!!! So save, save, save it will be.

Welcome, Jonny, and its so nice to see you!
I think that while there IS a lot of great info at Squalor Survivors, the real strength was the members. What was helpful was being able to talk to others in a similar situation. It does hurt to think of losing the posts of people who have moved on. But then again, if you copy EVERYTHING, or even just lots of things, isn't that kind of like hoarding info?
Could you just copy your posts that are important, and let the rest go?

Actually, Eagle said it best here....takeonestepatatime.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=200The thing about this that concerns me is that there seems to be a feeling that we are not capable of benefiting from our already extensive knowledge and font of wisdom by virtue of our common experience, without the written word we compiled elsewhere. As though we are not capable of re-creating or creating anew the knowledge base we collectively share.
True, it's nice to have reference material, but don't we already have a common problem collecting TOO MANY things, including reference material? Are we so afraid that we can't do with a little reference material and build upon that with each others' help?
I know that I am tempted to archive everything in my blog, and at least if I choose to do so, it's not so lengthy that it wouldn't be impossible. But if I were to attempt to archive everything I ever wrote on the SS boards (both old and older), it would take me so much time that I would undoubtably neglect my loved-ones, my health, my house and my business in order to get that enormous project completed. It simply is not worth the sacrafices or the effort. And in the end, I would have an enormous amount of data that would likely serve to feed my ego. My ego doesn't need that much feeding, as it isn't all that fragile to begin with.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that we are a group of wise and experienced people here, most of us having come through the growth of the Squalor Survivors community. We can share our experiences as they affect us now and be just as strong and healthy as ever. We can re-discover ourselves in a whole new way, while utilizing what we have learned in the past. But we don't have to carry all of the past with us, we can let go of some of that data and it won't harm us to do so.
I have tremendous faith is us.

HI Everyone! I am back after being really busy at work and with younger DD's school activities and also all the spring reality TV shows I follow fanatically. I am back focusing on decluttering and cleaning with renewed energy! Of course in Virginia today the temp will be around 100 and I am waiting for someone to come repair the upstairs heat pump so I can actually tackle my bedroom.
I will be trying to catch up on posts. My personal goal is to post what I am up to and current projects about once a week. It is always inspiring to see what others are working on!
Goal for today: finish the laundry. Goal for next week or two: Clean garage which has big pile o' STUFF sitting in middle. We can get the cars in, but it would be easier not having to dodge the STUFF. Also clean out my bedroom closet and thoroughly clean the bedroom (that I have been talking about cleaning for a year now...) Glad to see the new board and everyone! Joy in Virginia

Well I was kind of a newbie on SS just before the change/end. Anyway, I'm here, just absent for a bit. Caught up in other stuff.. nothing that productive mind you, though we HAVE gotten some stuff done lately. My partner got fired and I'm already on unemployment so money is a big worry at the moment, but we have tossed about 20 big black garbage bags of junk since she got fired! Anyway, I'm around.
