Hi,
So, ah, I wandered across your site and was thinking of pointing it anonymously to a friend who is definately well into stage 3, and then realized that I too had an issue. I live in probably a stage 1.5. Maybe the better end of 2. Not really sure.
Anyways, I'm glad I found it. I know my biggest problems, but not how to fix them.
For starters I live in a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment. There is me, 2 roommates, and my cat. The cat has a UTI (fun), that she is being treated at the vet for and I am HOPING the 2nd round of treatment works and there is no more piddling (I suppose i should be grateful she chooses the tub and laundry and not the carpets and furniture, the former are easier to clean by a LOT).
I have always been disorganized, absentminded, and keep things around too long. The packrat tendency is certainly in the family.
I will post photos later maybe.
I'm very bad at organizing papers and things. I know what i should keep and shouldn't, but getting what I need to keep into some semblance of sanity isn't working out.
Anyways, things that bug me. 1. I can never seem to get all the nooks and crannies in a room. This bothers me, greatly. To the point of wanting to call the complex after I have cleaned up and make them replace things like the wood molding around the tub and see about sealing in the linoleum corners that are peeled up under the dishwasher that collect ickyness that I can't get out.
2. Laundry - it's constantly overwhelming. The ironing is even worse. If i could pay somebody just to iron....
3. Roommates- they keep their rooms much better than I keep mine, but I also feel like a lot of the "common" area tasks fall to me because they refuse to participate. I wind up cleaning up the kitchen before my room and all and then my private space gets neglected. I am starting to wonder if I would not be better off without them.
4. Finishing projects (I'm bad at that, very bad). So there's lots of half-done stuff lying around.
5. Just the usual squalor stuff. It bugs me. But i can't seem to get ahead on it. The minute I get something clean the cat or the other rooommates will inevitably mess it up again. Or something happens (I get sick, I have to work 16 hour days for a while...whatever), and it just degrades.
I dont mean to sound negative, I just didnt know what else to say. I'm hoping finding this place and talking to others I will manage to get somewhere.

I'm glad that you found us, Stressed! I actually found SqualorSurvivors while looking for help for a hoarder friend. The more I read, the more I realized that this was the answer to the big mess that my family and I lived in! We have made a lot of progress, but there is still more to be done.
