I know there has been some discussion of this topic before-but should I just chunk all of the clothes on the floor. No animals have been in the room I am excavating but we have mildew here unless the house is perfectly heated and cooled. Should I toss or try to clean some of the clothes??? I don't care about most of them but will the smell ever come out of the other clothes??

Toss, toss, toss.
And be happy with all of the space you've gained.

i say throw away too. unless all it needs is a wash in the machine, it's not worth the trouble.

If this were all you were dealing with, and you were willing to play with baking soda, vinegar, sunshine and other odor removers, I would tell you to experiment. No harm done, and nothing to lose but time.
However, this is not all you're dealing with. And in light of that, I say... AMNESTY!
You have my permission to discard the clothes without doing everything you possibly can to salvage them.

If you haven't needed them before now, you don't need them now. Goodwill doesn't need them (they spend massive amounts of money cleaning things, and throw out most stuff they receive anyway) and you don't need to waste the time or effort worrying about it.

Chuck 'em out, do! Mildew stains are nigh on impossible to remove, I tried to get some out of a favourite tee-shirt once and it was no good. Plus they pong, and you deserve better than pongy stained clothes.

I got mildew stains out once...took forever, but I was so proud of myself when it was done! After using the clothes two or maybe three times, and washing them, they came out of the washer with holes in them! What a waste of time!
I'm with the others. I vote THROW THEM AWAY!

Throw them out unless they're intact, white and can stand an overnight soak in hot, sudsy bleach water. Nothing else really sanitizes mildew. They'll spread that smell everywhere.
