Hello to all. We have had a 4 day heat wave in Massachusetts, with heat indexes of 102-105, and oppressive humidity. I planned on going to the laundromat today to catch up with Mt Washmore, but forget that! I did manage to do one load just before the heat wave started. We have AC in one room, our bedroom. The rest of the house is 90 degrees farenheight most of the day, and humid at all times. I am SOOOO tired of it! I had today and tomorrow off, but it has been a bust so far. 3g is me

Yuck. I'm having much the same problem; here in Georgia, we've hit heat indeces of 105+ all week, and all I have to cool this house is a window unit that we can't turn up all the way or it'll trip the breaker. And it's MUGGY. I live only a mile or so from the swamp.
I've been doing small things... little pickups here and there, and stopping frequently for breaks, and avoiding all cleaning during the worse heat of the day, from 2-5.

Put a cold cloth on your forehead and forget cleaning. Too, too hot.

Go somewhere it's air conditioned, a store, the library, a movie. It will be a little cooler Wednesday. Enjoy your day off!

I hear y'all. In our last place, that kept me from cleaning for a whole summer... but it was miserable and we lived in a rental that had screwy electrical so the entire UPSTAIRS could not be cooled because the circuit couldn't handle the load of ANY a/c units. And, of course, our kitchen was upstairs. It was miserable!

You were right Fluffernut, it is 78 right now with a cool breeze. I am loving it! Dragonchilde, I hope it is cooler today for you too. You get even more humidity than us! :0 Thanks Pegasus, I took your advice and took it easy all day. Chronic, I feel bad for you. I live on the 2nd floor of a 3 decker apartment building, and it is hotter upstairs. I have always said that I prefer winter, because it's easier to find a place to get warm, than it is to find a place to get cool. 3g is me

I was running the AC until the last storm. It knocked out the electricity for hours. I opened the house and the low was downright chilly. I shut off my AC. My place needed a good airing, anyway.
I've been cleaning, sweating and chose to get acclimated. It will be well over a hundred, in a week, or 3. Yesterday, my place was 5 degrees warmer, than AC. The thermostat reads 90 today. It's not that bad. I lived in CT when actual temps were over 100. We didn't have AC. I was 8 months pregnant.
I'm embracing the work and the sweat. I used to work in 110 degreees, when I was skinny. My place was chilly at 85. I'm using this to my advantage. I drink more water, work my butt off and turned off the AC. Did I say my electric bill runs about $25, until the temp gets over 100?
I don't turn on the AC until I can stand 95 in the shade. We surpass 100 every summer. I figure it's best to be accustomed to the temp. Besides, I lose my Winter weight.
Laundry is best done at night, or just before dawn, at those temps. I was young, no AC, in Texas. I've also lived in CT, no AC and SC, the humidity is comparable. I've learned to prepare myself for the invariable heat and humidity. No heat-stroke for this girl.
Sorry you got our weather in Mass! It was supposed to move due East! I had to giggle at our landlords in CT. They couldn't understand how all the tenants were going for picnics, etc., at 100 degrees plus. We get it every year.
By the way, I never could swim in New England. The water was too cold! If it's too hot, head for a lake, or the beach. That stuff never warms up!

Dear 3g,
You have my sympathy.
I am in south Louisiana with no A/C except in one small storage room.
We won't be getting any relief until the electrical gets fixed, next week most likely.
Stay hydrated during the hot part of the day, and get out as much as you can.
