Sorry if something like this has been posted before. I only drop in on occasion, so I don't get a chance to read all threads. Then again I'm sure everything about cleaning has been covered at least once before on this forum. My problem: I always feel like I'm going in the right direction when I buy cleaning/organizing supplies, but then I never get around to using said supplies. When I'm buying it I feel empowered, but then once it's sitting around my house, it just feels like more clutter. For example, a couple months ago I bought special car wash and wax along with a special car sponge in order to wash my car at home and save on expensive car washes. All of these supplies have been sitting in the same Wal-Mart bag in the corner of my room since the day I bought them. I haven't touched any of it. I do this sort of thing all the time! Right now I'm thinking about organizing my children's books. I'd like to put them in clear tubs based on content, but I'd need to actually buy the tubs. My fear is I'll buy the tubs, but never put the books in them. I guess it's sort of like buying exercise equipment, but never actually exercising. Can anyone relate?

Hi Disarray - I can relate to the unused supplies & the empowerment when aqcuiring them. A good plan might be to REFUSE to buy any unless you KNOW you have room to store them with the actually used supplies until you decide to use or cull them. None of us need more bags sitting in corners. You already know this. Maybe pick a day to try out all the unused products. Then if you don't think they will be good for your regular cleaning, you can cull them away. As for those books, maybe start with one tub. Cull the books to within an inch of their lives first & then load one tub. See if you can manage that & see if the books actually get used. Oftentimes we put things in tubs & they never see the light of day until one day we decide to go through them again & dump them out. I have had this happen with LOTS of stuff in LOTS of tubs, eeeek. Whatever you decide, just take it slow & keep at it until you find your most efficient ways. Best to you, Blue

I can definitely relate. I bought a steam cleaner at X-Mas and its still in the box. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I'll finally get my downstairs carpet cleaned...

Make an appointment to wash the car. Put it on the refrigerator, BIG SIGN, with time and day. If you can, invite someone to do it with you. Many people will let themselves but they will follow through for a friend.

I think it is because once you make a move towards doing the actual cleaning, in your mind, you consider it done. Because you have done part of it, by buying the supplies.
I know that is how I am, at least.
