Dh got off without much problems (though I did have to go back to the airport because it forgot to leave his pocket knife at home!!) Still, not bad...
My main problem right now is with dd. Not really with her, but with a bird. She found it today, a baby. He had fallen from a tree and our dog had it. I don't think it's hurt badly, but dd couldn't find where it came from to put it back, so she put it in a box on the front porch... then she moved the box to the back porch... then we went to bed. (she's sleeping with me, since dh is out of town.) She kept getting up, using different excuses to go upstairs to her room. Finally I ask her if the bird was up there. Yes. The bird is upstairs.... and I lost it! I told her to go up and find it... she's up there 15 minutes, crying, can't find it. I go up... and look and look and look. No bird. She's wrapped it in dirty clothes and put it on her bed!!!
I'm angry at myself that I haven't made her keep her room picked up enough that it would be easy to find a rouge bird!!
I have a new box of trash bags and will go up there in a few minutes and start chucking stuff out. I've been meaning to,just didn't think this would be the reason...
Okay... here I go. I'm going to set the timer for 10 minutes... that's all I can do right now. It's 11:04pm.

Well, that took 42 minutes!! That's okay. I found the bird, alive and well. Well, as well as can be for a bird that shouldn't really be here. It had wedged itself up under dd's bookshelf (it's built it, but has about a 2 1/2 lift off the floor.) This was after clearing out from under her bed and filling a construction bag full of paper, broken toys, and bits of various trash. To walk in her room, it looked okay. Messy, but not unusual for an 8 year old... I'd been having her tidy her room occasionally by herself. I now know, that she's been stuffing everything under her bed and in boxes... wonder where she learned that from?!??
I'm so sick of living like this. Even in the rooms that look okay, are stuffed full of crap... I'm thinking of having a company like 1-800-got-junk.... I could bag / box and move everything to one room and have them come and haul it all away!! Wonder how much that would cost??
Just had a call from dh, he arrived safe and sound, but was going to have an hour and a half wait to take the transfer to the hotel!! Crazy... he's taking a cab instead. I'm hoping everything goes okay.

Aramenta,
Try googling "animal rescue", "wildlife rescue" or "wildlife rehab" and your city name. Baby birds will not live long without food - it needs to get to a rescue pronto so it can be fed and rehabed for release.
If need be, baby parrot formula, available at most pet stores, will keep him going until you can get him delivered to a professional - it should have directions on the canister. Feel free to PM me if you need more info - will also be glad to talk by phone if you are comfortable providing a number.
I took a bird to a local rehab a few years ago and it was worth the trip just to see all the animals - very cool.
Good luck!

I agree with Spacemaker about trying to find a wildlife rehab. It is very, very hard to keep a baby bird alive. It's better to leave it to the "pros".

Don't feel badly that the bird got lost... in my experience, it doesn't matter HOW clean things are... they'll find the ONE place you'll never think to look, behind that one pile of stuff you forgot about. It's like they have an instinct. Baby birds are very good at hiding, and even in clean homes, you would have had a hard time finding it.
Definitely leave it to the pros... I've "rescued" many a baby bird in my life, and not one have I ever been able to successfully keep alive.
