Hi there, and welcome! I am the proud mummy to four cats, so I can relate to having an entire room suddenly become a litter box. You can reclaim your rooms. It can be done. It happens on this board all the time, with people eating the proverbial elephant one bite at a time. I myself am currently at a manageable level of mess, with the litter box issues almost under control. Two years ago, this wasn't the case. Heck, a year ago I was still backsliding into squalor, and now I struggle. But each time I clean things up and let things slide, it becomes a little easier to pick up and start again. Each time there is a little less clutter, a little less mess, a little less stress, because I know that it can be done, that I've done it before, and that eventually my place will be clean. You've come to the right place. I hope you feel as welcome as I did when I first joined Squalor Survivors (the old board) in late 2006. ~Mouse

Thanks soo much. I love my furry babies almost as much as my son! I have bought 2 additional litter boxes and i am hopeful it will solve that problem.
I think my real problem is i want to do everything just right and if it doesnt get done that way then i dont start at all. Sort of like being a profectionist i guess. I have days where i just want to get the entire house done in one day (nEVER happened!) And i always get distracted.
Thanks!

Hi mlb1985! I think a lot of "us" suffer from the all or nothing mentality. You CAN do this!! Some people start by doing the entire house and some start by putting three things away a day. Join us in the Working In Threes thread under Listzilla. It has been a HUGE tool in helping me "maintain" (which I think is the hardest part). Good luck, and I hope to be "seeing" alot of you Wantinmore

hi mlb1985, welcome! What mouse said is true; our homes and apts can be reclaimed a bit at a time, and each time it gets better and easier. The extra litterboxes ought to help your guy kitties; I find that the cleaner I keep the litterboxes, the more kitties use them and the less other "accidents" happen (I do a lot of animal care 'cause I love animals) I currently live alone and have been a hoarder all my life. I know that when I did live with a partner who was also a hoarder or a messie, when I changed myself I was able to effect change by being a good example, and when I did my own clearing and decluttering, it was as if we both got an aha and could see how bad the mess had gotten. There is so much help on these boards, so many wonderful ideas that people share, support, great advice based on real experience. So glad you found us, and kudos to you for your courage and determination!

Welcome aboard mlb1985. I love furry babies too but right now I only have two cats. I really understand the all or nothing mentality thing (which is so self-defeating). Seems like I think I should do a job completely and perfectly if I am going to tackle it at all. (Ha! Bad idea.) Now I am learning that little by little is the way to get out of squalor, and I am pretty sure you will find the same thing. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to your future posts.

Welcome to SOS. I have four little dogs (and a hubby). The dogs sleep in our bed. I know what it is like to have furkids. Well done for deciding to reclaim your house for your baby (but ultimately it wil be for you , too!) I have never dealt with litter boxes, but others here certainly have. Some-one was even going to buy a dvd on how to train a cat to use a human's toilet but I didn't hear if it worked. They may even have some ideas of what to do with a hoarding husband!
