I have one - I think it's called a steam shark, or something like that. To be honest, I bought it on HSN during one of my out-of-control manic phases, and haven't done much with it except remove wallpaper. (It works amazing for that, by the way.) My problem with the steamer: In my world, if it doesn't smell like cleaner, I don't think it's really clean. This is also why I don't use my microfiber mop. I was actually going to try it again today, because my daughter spilled something on her bookshelf and it's all sticky and gunked on, and I thought the heat might melt it. ETA: I used it on the bookshelf, where whatever it was had glued a gift card to the shelf. It took 35 seconds to clean; ie longer to warm up the steamer than to clean. Maybe I like this thing more. I just wish it smelled like Pine-Sol or something.

I don't know if it would mess up the machine or not; I'm afraid to try.
I wish they made candles that smelled like floor cleaner. I'd be so happy!

I LOVE my steamer! It doesn't give a smell....but it is steam, so things are SANITIZED. I use it to clean the outside of the toilet sometimes. With spray cleaners, I always wipe down the toilet with paper towels, because I don't want toilet germs in my dirty laundry pile. With the steamer, I wipe it with rags. It is basically just wiping up water left behind the steamer.
And you can use it a whole bunch, and you don't get choked up from the fumes! (I have a small bathroom, so sometimes the cleaning fumes can be awful!)
I have a Scunchi Steamer. It heats up quick, and it works well. I go months sometimes without pulling it out, but it is so great at cleaning in crevices in the bathroom and kitchen. I pulled old dirt off my screen door making it look cleaner than it ever has.
I would be afraid to add an oil to the machine...but you could spray the room with febreeze when you are done!
I'm glad I read this post, MessySue, CatieCat and KrazyKittenLady! I'm deep cleaning my bathroom today, and had not thought about pulling out the steamer! I'll definitely pull it out now!
