I am now living in my daughter's house while we are waiting for ours to close. Since now three apartments have damaged mold filled walls and we are trying to quickly move, I am not sorting as I go I am sorting boxes as I get them to my daughter's house. I have lots of little things that are hard to sort like q-tips, opened packages of false nails (Halloween) make up and other small items. I am thinking about putting them in those plastic school boxes and grouping them. I need some sort of order to them. I am also putting some of them in zip lock bags and putting those bags in the school boxes. What else have you all tried?

I have no tips for you, iguanamamma, I am in a similar boat. I plan to sort all those weird little, annoying things that I can't really turf because I actually use them after I move. (I'm also moving quickly, and not sorting properly, due to time limits). Just wanted to say best of luck on this one - and looking forward to hearing tips.

Q-tips and the like go in the medicine cabinet.
Small items go into dividers in drawers, or into small boxes and then put in a larger tub with like items. This is especially true for holiday items, I have big bins for each holiday in the attic.
I also have baskets under the sinks for toiletries/makeup, and stackable drawers in the bathrooms for each person's toothbrush and personal items.
Stackable drawers also come in handy in the laundry room for small items that go there.
I hope you get into your house very soon.

remember alot of things are replaceable.. ie the halloween nails.. you can always get more at the dollar store the next year.
Q-tips and toiletries are available at ANY drugstore/walmart, etc... dont feel ashamed if you feel the need to just pitch everything you can. in the end you wont miss that one package of fake nails or that one box of q tips.
