I've got way too much stuff and want to get rid of alot of it. However, that is WAY FAR easier said than done!
Right now, my clothes are giving me trouble. Currently, I weigh the most I"ve ever weighed, but I'm trying to lose it, even entering the "Biggest Loser" challenge at work.
So, I've got several sizes' worth of clothes, some of which need to go, others that I want to wear again. I've begun sorting into 3 cagetories - to go, to keep, and unsure.
Guess what stack is biggest? If you guessed the "unsure" stack, you're right!
I've never been very good at making definite decisions, but need to start! HELP!

Hiya Toni There will be good suggestions coming along on this thread for you because many people at S.O.S. have successfully gotten on top of the clothing dilemma. For me, I am just happy to now have all clothes either HANGING UP in one closet or another or FOLDED inside a number of drawers. LOTS of it needs further purging & organizing so I can even know what I have available to wear, but at least getting it all off the floor or no longer folded up in teetering 'stacks' located everywhere was a big improvement for me, woo. Best thing I can tell you is to continue to re-cull each of your 'to keep' & 'unsure' categories until you feel you really do have a manageable amount of clothing. You can do this!

Hi Toni,
I wish I had the answer for you but I only have the same question. My guess is the answer is different for each of us. My sentimental hold on stuff is so strong. Even when things are broken, I tend to try to fix everything!
I have been gaining strength and wisdom from reading threads here. Keep reading, keep trying to sort through your stuff and piece by piece you can get it done.

My suggestion is to toss them all.
When you do lose the weight, and you will, you will deserve new stuff (even if "new" means gently used nice things). What you have now will not be in style anymore, and you will want to step out in style.

toni,
I vehemently disagree with you. By getting through the sorting you made very definite decisions. Consider this: By putting an item in the "Unsure"pile, you made a decision that to decide definitely would have slowed you down. So you were absolutely, 100% correct and decisive in your clothes sorting.
For now, just deal with the keep and go piles, get the keepers clean, and fixed and where they belong. Get the discards OUT. If the unsures are for the current season, and fit a need in your wardrobe, you may now wish to promote them to keepers. If they do not fit, when do you think they will fit? For myself, I have not lost the weight I keep saying I will lose, so I only allow myself about one size smaller.
But now you have inspired me to do some laundry, and get my own wardrobe in order, so I will end here for now.

Hi Toni,
I related so much to your message, as clothes have always been the hardest decluttering hurdle for me. When I joined SOOS I had 3 closets stuffed with clothes, and such a huge overflow that I was using the shower rod as a sort of 4th closet.
I have had to declutter (the first stages of decluttering at least) under a deadline, as I have an apartment inspection/walk-through this week.
I asked my Mom to come over and help me sort through my clothes. She is much more brutal than me about it (thankfully) and I ended up donating two big car loads of clothes to Salvation Army. What I donated:
* anything more than one size bigger or smaller than what I currently wear * anything OLD (i.e. college clothes from the 1980's) * anything in need of repair * anything I didn't like (i.e. color or fit not flattering)
It was easier than I anticipated after we got started. My suggestion is -- do you have a friend or family member that you trust to help you sort? This helped me tremendously.
Good clothes decluttering thoughts for you!
