For me the biggest cluttermesstoomuch problem has always been those boxes in the closet. I still have a hard time letting go of some things. Old family stuff, books(especially!!!!), dishes, etc. etc. in the boxes. Wrapped in paper and tissues. Lots.
I've decided to "take another look" at the boxes once every 2 months or so. Calendar note says "um..the boxes!".
So yesterday morning and this morning went through 2 boxes of stuff. Two from the big pile of boxes still there. Well, now one box ready to donate. And, um, the other , smaller box of stuff is still a " keeper". And, for now, back it goes into the closet. Seems that "take another look" works for me. Undecided stuff goes back till next time.
I do, however, get rid of something everytime I do this. And it's kind of silly, but feels good to get rid of an empty box too

Canna!! It's so hard to get rid of stuff, and you've done it!! I'm glad you've found a method that works for you.

Dear canna, Great Job!!! If you can let go of a few more things each time, great. Do what works. messymimi

Woo! Go you! Boxes of stuff are hard to get rid of, especially if they have some sort of sentimental value. ~Mouse

I think this is a great idea, Canna. It's a lot easier for me to 'let go' the 2nd or 3rd time I evaluate an item. It may seem a roundabout way to make a decision, but if it works, it works!

Great work Canna! Pat yourself on the back that you have discovered a way to get rid of stuff that you really don't want/need. I have boxes of stuff too. Not so much because I want to keep stuff, but because I often use the "box method" of cleaning........throw everything into cardboard boxes and shove them under beds, in closets, on my porch, in the back bedroom. The aim is to then go through one box at a time and deal with the stuff in them. Somehow I never quite get to finishing that step!! I can see 3 such boxes just from where I'm sitting at the computer right now! Hopefully your courage to purge the boxes will inspire me to deal with mine as well. Thanks for sharing! Carrie

I have a similar problem.. I moved a few months ago, but only unpacked the boxes as I needed items in them. Yep, so I have a TON of packed (and semi-packed boxes) stacked around my living room. It doesn't look as bad as it would if I unpacked them all and tried to jam them places but it's still a little embarassing...

That is awesome progress! And it's really impressive that you've found a system that works for you. Getting rid of stuff is difficult for me too (understatement of the year!) I like your process of going through things slowly and more than once. Keep up the good work! notc p.s. Love the calendar entry!
