I have played this game before & it has helped me in the past. I don't do it often enough but thought I'd ask you all to join me this time. It is great when you have lots to do and have the mind set of, "It doesn't matter what I do, as long as something gets done". or the one of, "I just need to start somewhere!". That kind of mindset or something similar. I have put all my "things to do" on little slips of paper and folded them and placed them in a bag. You can do the same thing or put them in some other container. You could even make a numbered list & number it and roll the dice. Or, you could make a list & ask someone to shout out a number & you do that number. (You can ask someone here, or someone in your home). The main idea is to get started and get something done.
I do have laundry that I must do in-between plus you know things come up like...feeding dogs, etc. So, the things that I have to do are cleaning/decluttering so will plan on spending 20 minutes on each thing & then 10 will probably just get spent doing laundry, drinking water, phone call, putting decluttered stuff away in a different room or place, etc. So, should be gone a total of 30 minutes between each time I draw a slip of paper from my bag. I do have 3 tasks that I must start on by noon, so if I don't draw the slip for those, then I will have to break at noon and do those things... YOU CAN MAKE THIS GAME TO FIT YOU. IF DOING 1 MINUTE OF SOMETHING OR PICKING UP ONE PIECE OF TRASH WORKS FOR YOU, THEN DO IT. IF YOU NEED AN HOUR OR MORE PER TASK, THEN DO THAT! PLEASE CUSTOMIZE TO FIT YOU!
Let's post on here & keep each other motivated.
HAVE FUN! CD

Okay... I'm back. 8:24am *I checked blanket that I had in washer...have to re-wash it. Still has lots of pet hair on it. * Removed lint from dryer. *Changed linens in DD's Room. *picked up the torn up kleenex that resulted from puppy. * Also, she had gotten one of DD's art's & craft's projects from how many years ago? that must have fallen under DD's bed. She tore it up. It was a Thanksgiving project. A small turkey shaped from syrofoam that had sequins pinned into it. Half the pins were on the floor around it & I am just hoping she didn't swallow any of them. She must have done this last night while we were out & I didn't know it until just a little while ago. I cleaned that mess up. Puppy seems fine, but will have to keep a close eye on her. *removed old pillow case from DD's drawer from when she was a toddler. It was one with theme from Alladin. Had Jasmine's picture on one side & tiger on the other. put it in drawer with linens in guest room/office. *put one pillow case in giveaway bag. It was an advertising specialty (premium) sample. *put linens from bed into her clothes hamper. *put some puppy toys on her bed in hopes that puppy will want to sleep with her or in her crate tonight. Puppy usually either sleeps in crate or in mine & DH's waterbed. DD has been sleeping on the den couch for a year. But, I am ready for her to try out her room again. Puppy is a year old & let her sleep in den with her when we first got her, and found DD was sleeping soo much better in the den... had previoius sleep issues. I am soo ready for her to try her bed again & this evening she arrives back in town from her trip to Michigan. I heard from DD during that stretch. Have not spoken with her or heard from her in 2 weeks. She has been at a Girl Scout Destination...an apprenticeship. "Wilderness First Responder". They don't allow cell phones where this took place. She sounded very happy & had her boarding pass & at the airport in Traverse City, MI. She said that she got her Certification as a Wilderness First REsponder. . . that the test was very hard & she thought she failed it, but is so happy she got Certified!
Next will be: Dining Room...uh oh. One of my Rooms of Doom! Will eat breakfast first. CD

Dear CanDo, I love games, makes me feel like I'm having a party instead of working . My must do items are to take the cats to adoption day and get money from the bank to pay the electrician. He will be here any minute to turn off my electricity for the rest of the day . That means I will be playing, but cannot check in with you till this evening. I will make my list and close my eyes and point, and do that item, after I get back from the bank. I will post this evening on what I have done, and catch up on how your day went. messymimi

MessyMimi--So glad you are joining in the fun! Hope you get lots done & I'll be looking forward to hearing about it later. Mostly I hope the cats get adopted...I don't know if you are fostering or if these are your pets for years, but sure hope they get adopted. My DD and I enjoy working adopt-a-pets.
Spent longer...DH is home & of course, we yak.
10:13am Here's what I did...I had last picked Dining room/room of doom. *put load of laundry in washer *moved load into dryer *put another load in washer *ate healthy breakfast of cereal *spent most of that 20 minutes of dining room....trying to decide what to do with stuff, so didn't actually get much done. First item, was DVD set we had bought years ago as a gift to someone we hardly know... DH wants to keep it for us, now, & buy another gift... I said okay. It had been sitting on my dining room table for at least 4 years---I'm ashamed to say. *2nd item...gift I bought for one of my nieces, but can't remember buying it or which neice...been sitting on my dining room table for minimum 2 years. Decided to send it to my youngest neice whose birthday is coming up in 3 weeks. Stuck sticky note to it and am determined to buy birthday card & send it. Did move it to eating area which is a temporary staging area... *3rd item--bag with gift enclosures for Bar & Bat Mitzvahs. I am so ashamed!!! My DD went to them years ago & we never sent the gifts!!! What the H*ll is wrong with me!!! So was going to put them in my bag of cards that I keep in hand in my bedroom in a cabinet inside my dresser. Actually have a place for these. Then, as I discovered more Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts that we never sent... I asked DH what he thought we should do...and he wants to send the gifts (anonymously...with just a hint like just the first letter of our last name). He wants us to be honoroble... Ha! I told him, if we send them then I will put who it is from. It may be embarrassing...but i'm sure they will like receiving a gift whenever it is... I feel like a crazy lunatic!!! & we could use these gifts to send other gifts we owe that I haven't purchased yet. Oh well, decision made, so now I just need to follow thru if I can figure out who we sent gifts to & who we didn't and verify addresses. *4th item...bag with 2 bar/bat mitzvah gift cards from Barnes & Noble and one Bar Mitzvah card. Decision made above. *called Barnes & Noble to make sure the cards had not expired & are still good. They are! Almost forgot to post these two: *put DH & my voter's registration in our files *put DH's cataract lens descriptions in his file---so happy that I haven't lost those!
Next: Eating area.

Sounds like a great plan, CanDo! And woo hoo for your daughter!
I have to disagree with your husband about trying to match up years old gifts with recipients. For all you know, you will forget the one person who really noticed you didn't send anything, and then THEY will feel even worse!
I am 100% certain that I did not send money to the 3 neices that have graduated already. But this year, starting now, I am sending the two that graduated THIS YEAR, a card and some $$. Lets both forgive ourselves for past oversights, and just try to start with the current gifts!
I am doing laundry, and will also do a list. I'll have the kids give me a letter to choose what I will do.
So far I have........... Got up, stripped my bed Sheets plus extra darks into washer Took old doggie out to do her business Fixed and ate a healthy brekkie (oatmeal) Sat at puter and woke up....then scooped all 3 litterboxes, added extra litter to the one that was low. Cleaned up doggie doo from hallway (she is getting really old!) Rebooted laundry....lights!
It really looks good when you write it all out, doesn't it!?!
[glow=red,2,300]GO, MIMI, GO! [/glow]
[glow=yellow,2,300]and keep up the momentum, CanDo! [/glow] Your dd will be so appreciative when she gets home!
Plant Bamboo and Impatiens Pull weeds Vacuum (this is next on the list, then I'll go to random) Shower/Dress 5 mins cleaning behind my dresser....a pit of crap blocking entry to the room of doom Put checks into and mail graduation cards!
I'll try to add more as I think of it............zoom zoom zoom~~~~~~~~~

:-*Count me in! I love games, too. I'm going to the grocery store across the street, but I'll be back soon. I'll alternate between chores every 10 minutes. That way I won't go crazy picking up trash, etc. BBL

Hi CrazyCatlady. So glad you're joining in. Looks like you've already gotten alot done. Poor doggie...
Thanks for weighing in on those gifts. I almost put it out there as a general question... My first thought was to do what you said. So, I'll give it a perfunctory try, but if it doesn't look like its doable...I'll just use the gifts for others that we owe gifts for. My DH can be a jerk sometimes, so if he finds I did not do what he recommended when I asked his opinion he will have the following attitude, "Why ask me & bother me about this and waste my time if you are not going to do what recommend?" He is not always a jerk, but he has done that one before... (I'm no "walk in the park", I'm sure...) But, now thanks to you, I'll not dwell too overly long on this ...which is now a project, huh?
Okay... 11:43am I just spent 20 in my eating area & also did one or two other things. *folded load of laundry *put that load away *put away shopping bag that had 3 new tubes of toothpaste & an ice scraper...can't even remember when I bought them. But must have been in February or older. Put toothpaste in cabinet in back bathroom & put ice scraper in garage. put bag in bag of bags to take to grocery store later to recycle. *another shopping bag (actually 2 combined)... 1 exercise video, and 2 oven mitts. Put video in den on shelf & removed tags from the oven mitts & put in kitchen drawer where I keep potholders. Put bags into bag of bags to be re-used. These have been sitting around my eating area for a little over a month. *put my contacts in
Let's see, next: dining room, again. This time won't have as long cause I have to, get dressed, go to the grocery store, & cook Turkey Spaghetti.
Here goes. CD

Excellent, Saffron! And you are doing great, CanDo! DH started burning a small pile in the yard, so the kids and I went out and cooked hotdogs, and they had some marshmallows, too. What fun! Rebooted laundry...lights in dryer, jeans in washer
Plant Bamboo and Impatiens Pull weeds Vacuum (this is next on the list, then I'll go to random) Shower/Dress 5 mins cleaning behind my dresser....a pit of crap blocking entry to the room of doom Put checks into and mail graduation cards! Fold laundry!

Although I need to do stuff, today is not my day. But I wanted to add a comment on the "owed gifts". I wouldn't send them off either. The past is the past and let it go. Too late, done deal, life goes on and all that......really, if they haven't said anything by now it sure would look odd for that to show up years later. From now on if you are able, by all means do what you want but I need to say that you don't "owe" anybody a gift. A gift is something you give because you want to not because you need to. This isn't coming out right. What I'm trying to say is that if someone gave me a gift expecting one in return then that wasn't much of a gift you know? Because of money issues in the past and my own procrastination I no longer really do gifts anyway. I send cards for the holidays, or birthdays but that's about it. Because I know in my heart that my intentions are good but I will not get around to sending off a gift in a timely manner. And a couple of years ago I simply could not afford to send money or gifts so I kept it simple on my end and all the relatives started doing the same thing with me. Which I found out later on that some relatives appreciated it because they were having money issues of their own. Well, I wasn't going to do much of anything today but there are some dishes in the sink so I guess I'll get up and get them done! See what you did??

CrazyCatLady--Sounds like y'all had fun! Woo Hoo!!!
Heylady & Saffron--Thanks so much for your advice, as well. I should have known better than to ask DH... Hmmmm.
Heylady--Can't wait to hear your dish report!
Saffron--Thank you for the congrats for DD. It was the official course that is held in various parts of the country.
Well, I didn't get to work on dining room, but did get some other stuff done.
2:13pm *chopped up an onion for cooking with later (ran out of time) *dressed2shoes, teeth, hair, lipstick *swiped back bathroom toilet *swiped around one of the back bathroom sinks *picked up ton of dog hair from carpet in my bedroom--just scraped it up from the carpet with my hand *got dishes soaking *washed 3 kitchen sink counters *washed top of stove *went to grocery store--took longer than I thought it would *brought in the mail *trained for a bit with puppy--"fetch toy" and "give to Momma"...she had to put it in my hand. She actually tried talking to me at one point when she brought it & dropped it near me but didn't understand yet to put it in my hand. She did it, though! & repeated it 4 times! *remembered to drop off bag of plastic bags for recycling while at grocery store
Will have to come back later to do more. Can't wait to read what y'all have done. CD
