"Mommy, our living room is beautiful!" - 3.5 year old son, after the last time I vacuumed. My motivation to keep going!" I've noticed that Hypatia is now posting that at the bottom of her posts (signature?)... Really brings a smile to my face when I read that someone has noticed our efforts.... Anyone have any to add so we can keep smiling? CD

My SIL came with our daughter and the kids home for a visit, he was bragging on how clean and neat the house was, (this SIL once scrubbed and organized my kitchen for me) especially the kitchen redo we had just done, but then he ended with, "You know I can walk straight to things now in the house, whereas before I had to walk around things, I always felt like I was walking an obstruction course before." Before he said it I had not even noticed the obstructions in our paths before, even though I had removed them, and couldn't figure out why the house seemed so much nicer to be in.

I was up from 8am monday to 8am tuesday cleaning the apartment because we got a 48 hour notice for inspection. The place was horrific. And I'd spent the day before packing and moving all of mom's stuff to a storage locker. I fell asleep before my boyfriend got home from night shift. I woke up to him opening the black out curtains, breve mocha and a cookie in hand saying the place looked brilliant and spacious and he wanted to bring me something as a present but he didn't want to clutter up the place with more stuff so I'd best eat my cookie and drink my mocha so I could get into the bath he was drawing for me since my muscles must be sore.
I was too wasted with lack of sleep and tiredness to really appreciate it yesterday. this morning I am smiling hard at him while he sleeps in.

Anyone have any to add so we can keep smiling? I am having a FIBRO flare; big deal. I decided to use this frustrating experience as the theme for a special page in my SCRAPBOOK. What does this have to do with SQUALOR? *well......I started the scrapbook SPECIFICALLY because of ENCOURAGEMENT I received at SS! *I am able to keep on keeping on because of so much good advice I have received from my SS friends (and now my STEP friends) *I have been encouraged no end by my participations in ListZilla. and..... *my office is now a nice place for scrapbooking and other hobbies BECAUSE OF MEGA-TOSSING SESSIONS undertaken as part of our various challenges! luv and thanks from Script

Yep, that's my signature, to remind me why I'm doing this every day! Just the joy my 2 little ones get from running around in the decluttered living room brings a big smile to my face. - Being able to open the living room blinds and letting the sun in, without being worried about someone stopping by and seeing the mess inside. - Walking across my kitchen - BAREFOOT! Without having to brush my feet off afterward. - Waking up to a clean kitchen and realizing that hey, I can make some banana bread real quick. The sink is empty, the counters are clear, the mixer is accessible, it won't take long at all. My 3 year old waking up and saying "mommy, something smells yummy!"

Thanks for starting this thread Cando. I've been smiling all the way down to the last posts. My 5 yr old DD is my most effusive cheerleader, and the best example in the house. I decluttered her room first and she has been working to keep it clean and redecorating. She wanted to rearrange all the furniture, so DH and I helped her do that. Then she started putting up all her favorite drawings to "decorate." Then she piled her toy playpen on top of her toy crib to make a "bunkbed" for her babies. Then she propped up her umbrella on top of the playpen and draped a blanket over it so it would be a "canopy bunkbed." I could go on - it's quite a room... I love how her creativity has just blossomed now that she truly has her own space (that's neat and liveable.) She definitely doesn't get that from me! But my favorite thing was when she said, looking around after her decorating spree, "Oh Mommy, we just have to have my friends over. They will love my room!" I am so happy that my daughter has a place that she loves and is proud of. (Of course the rest of the house is not quite at the friend's visiting level - but it's getting there...) notc

This story is from about a year ago (sorries to those who read it before ) My cousin's wife had never been here before, and when they visited, she walked around the apartment and said, "Oh my gosh, is this place always so clean?" . If only she'd been here in the good old days!

have to add this. my kids have the day off today, for memorial day weekend, andi told them what was going to happen today, cleaning wise and what was going to be expected of them. i told dd2 that since she helped me clean while dd1 was at school yesterday, she doens't have to help as much today. she pipes up and says 'i'm going to clean more today mom.' ok, that is fine. then dd1 and dd2 get into a spat on who is going to clean MORE. as if i have so little to do that i could actually run out of cleaning that needs to be done!! ... kids can be so cute.

That's hysterical, Missy! !----fighting over who's going to clean more!!! Thank you for this morning's smiles. I remember when there was a time my DS & DD might have done that. They used to sing that Barney clean up song, "Clean up, clean up! Everybody do their share...". Come to think of it we used to clean up together singing that song. Now they are teens and I doubt that they would do that... well, maybe...?wishful thinking............ CD
