Anyone else have these in regards to cleaning up your mess?
I tend to get them late at night, right before going to bed. Then of course by morning they are gone. This time it was at 8 am this morning, as I was digging through baskets of clean (unfolded) laundry trying to find clothes and socks for eveyrone so we could get out the door. I would pull something out and think"summer clothes, pack it away" or "no one wears a size 10, that can go" Why did it seem so easy when I didn't have to deal with it, just needed to find clothes that fit, but when I actually sit down to attack that pile it will once again seem insurmountable??

My guess is because A) It smells all clean and nice. People underestimate the power of scent. B) That wasn't really the task that you were focused on, so you weren't stressing yourself out about it by going, "I'm never going to get this done," in your head.

You have more energy in the morning, too.
Decisions that would come easily to you then are more difficult to make when you are tired at the end of the day.
Perhaps, it would help to have a notebook or note pad where you can jot down your 8:00 A. M. thoughts. Then, when 8:00 P.M. rolls around, along with your fatigue, you can refer to your notes if you want to do a bit of decluttering. The "thinking" part of the job already will have been done. All you need to do then is to carry out the next step of your plan(s).

Messy, I have the exact same problem. As I'm rushing to get ready to go to work or run errands or do whatever, the organizational thoughts just seem to flow. I want to do it and I know exactly how to get it done. But later on, when I actually get around to doing it, I once again feel completely overwhelmed. It makes me want to scream. I've also tried to figure out why this happens repeatedly. Is it because it always looks easier to do something than it is to actually do it? Of course, using that reason makes me even more angry with myself. I just keep thinking, "It's a pile of stuff. All you have to do is find a place to put it or give it away. It's not as if you're trying to climb Mount Everest backward or perform brain surgery with your feet." But it often seems just as impossible. It would be great if cleaning clarity came in a bottle. . .

I have this exact same problem, too. And I don't know why, either. You and DD have written my story. I am just hoping that the process of working with SOOS and all you kind people will solve this problem eventually. Thank you for putting into words something that has been frustrating me for a long time - my whole life.

I have the same thing happen to me - sometimes in the shower or while driving. Always seems to be the most inopportune time. Sometimes I have jotted the thoughts down, and I have also used the voice recorder on my phone - quicker than writing. Safer while driving, but not recommended in the shower....

too funny, moonglow! yup, i belong to your tribe with the others, jedi. i think dailystruggle hit on it; when you're not focused on the dread or thinking, and are focused on some other task and have little time, it's easy to make snap decisions without a lot of regret. 5 min. a day of this kind of thing could make a lot of difference in a month. and agree with arid; sorting goes so much better for me in the morning when i'm fresh. forget sorting late in the day or at night. cc

I like the idea of keeping a notebook but A) how do I keep a pen and notebook handy and B) how do I remember to consult it? There must be some trick to it. I've met people who managed this! Do they hang it around their necks? Sleep with it tied to the alarm clock?
Does anyone make appointments with themselves? Would this help? "Planning session at 9:00, BE THERE."

60! It's part of the learning curve... for us SHE's (side tracked home executives)... we don't know how to do that thus, i too have notebook... after notebook... after notebook... scattered all over the house, mostly wire bound notebooks... some 3 ring binders... what I finally settled on was a $1 diary from dollar general. It's not very big and the pages have to be cut out, as they are not perferated... but I can put it in my purse... try to put everything in it... so when I am looking for where did i put it, it should be in that notebook. it's small enough to go in my purse... that's where I keep it. When I write up a master (usually weekly, occasionally monthly) list, it's on a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet paper folded in quarters... with the different sections on different quarters... basic maintenance, squalor recovery, house repairs, laundry, errands, sewing, mending, alterationsm, groc list, etc. and I keep THAT sheet in the front of the notebook. I also have notebook/pen by the laptop... which, sadly, is not wireless right now... need to get tech help... so, when it goes back to wireless.. not quite sure how i will keep a notebook with the laptop.... hm... goober... open notepad and keep notes? no, i think i still want paper... cuz i write things down as they occur to me, and i keep a list of comments I want to respond to... here. it may work out... a friend has a gift for me, not yet rec'd a laptop bag.. so i can keep the note book there... um, sorry for the ramble. Flylady advocates ONE calendar... and a control journal, which is supposed to end up a three ring binder... but also suggests starting small, with a sheet of paper... and she teaches us how to learn to check the calendar. go to Flylady.net and read on her calendar and control journal section. she has good suggestions... and she has been where we have. one thing on your daily list... before bed routine... is check calendar. thus you know what's coming the following day... and can lay out clothes accordingly. (I don't lay out clothes) my control journal is not built yet. and i've subscribed to flylady (daily encouraging emails for about 7 years) Just saying, i'm not ALL THAT... but there are training resourses available for those of us who are oblivious to the things obvious to BO's (born organized).
